Engine map/chip box

Featured Replies

Hi folks. have any of you fitted one of these performance/economy gizzmos? I have it on good authority from my mechanic that you can really see the difference in economy and performance. He paid about £100 for his and swears by it. Any experiences or advice from you experts out there?? I am really tempted to try one out.

Cheers

Hmmm, most of these devices, all they do is lean out the mix, which will give better fuel consumption & some better performance. All I will say is that the manufacturers spend a fortune (read millions) developing and testing engine maps to give the best balance of performance, consumption and durability for road car use..... instead of buying a £100 device. I let u decide why they don't fit them from day 1. In motorsport u expect the engine to go bang one day..... you don't in a road car for good reason, the manufacturer designs it that way.

Hi. Have been thinking about fitting one of these units to my 2.7 diesel. Doing 25,000 miles per annum, a 10% fuel saving would be £350 per annum. I've seen units at between £100 to £400 so had no idea which one to go for. Then hit another snag. The insurance company I am with (through this website) wouldn't insurance the car with such a unit fitted. A company that would required an additional £150 on the premium even with a maximum no-claims, so that means a net saving (not guaranteed) of say £200 per annum. Decided it wasn't worth it, particularly after reading the above reply.
