new info on my brake query

Featured Replies

Guys,

in answer to my post about X-type brakes i received an excellent tip from Pete.

his suggestion was to go to bluejag.co.uk for advice.

sure enough, there's plenty there for all manner of jag queries.

i was interested in the brake chapter and when reading it came across a mention of a brake rewind tool and it was linked. i followed the link and came to a dead end as it wanted me to pay using Google market etc - a site i have been well warned off about.

so i went on ebay and no matter what i typed in i only came across expensive sets of brake gadgetry.

then i typed in FORD and came across the very same photo as per bluejag; only blue jag wants £19.99 whereas ebay wants £9.99 and free postage.

if you want one, it is as follows:

Draper ABS brake piston wind back tool 22349 for FORD & ROVER.

supplied by cargeardirect.

thanks for the tip off Pete and i hope this info is a help to any others of you out there working on brakes.

cheers

rich

Hello richgreenjag, the tool for rewinding the pistons can be used on both front calipers as they just push back, the rear pistons are handed, one turns clockwise to move it back, the other anticlockwise. Whatever tool you get it must have 2 rewind keys, I got a universal set off ebay. Also worth mentioning, when finishing winding the rears back leave the slots at the top and bottom (12.30) as the pads have a little pin that must locate into one of the slots. Also make sure the new pads have antisqueal shims on the back if they don't they will rattle like mad and drive you crazy, just ask the salesperson to have a look before buying it'll look like a bit of rubber coated steel stuck on the back of the pad.
