Hi Folks,

New to this World, having just purchased my first Jaguar (1999 S Type) a couple of days ago.

I have just noticed today that when pressing the door lock button on the fob, it sounds like doors lock and indicators flash to signal this, but doors remain unlocked. Either seems to be locking and immediately unlocking or not actually locking in first place.

One other small thing is that the dash display reads Boot Open when it is securely locked.

Any advice appreciated!

I had a problem few weeks ago after the snow. All my doors would lock after pressing unlock on the remote control. as soon as I pressed unlock I had to open door immediately other wise it would lock again. Last week after a long run to Hull and back it started to work correctly again. I can only assume that water when the snow melted got into some electrical part that operates the doors.

It is now working ok, fingers crossed

The car is not locking because it thinks your boot is open even though it is not, it will try to lock then unlock as it thinks boot is still open, try cleaning locking mechanisam on boot, could just be bad contact, if you can stop dash board saying boot is open my guess is central locking will start working again properly.

Thanks for the tip Wayne, that would seem to be the source of the problem.

Have WD40'd and repeatedly opened/closed the boot but still no joy. Shall persevere.

Unfortunately sounds like you might need a new boot locking mechanism.

 Roger that.

 Can you confirm, is there any difference between the boot locking mechanism on a 1999 model and later ones?

My 2001 model locks, flashes the lights but the offside rear door remains unlocked until Icpress the lock button for a second time then it locks OK Andy clues?? welcomed

@Macdonald

From what I can tell they are the same from 99 to 03, there are plenty for sale on ebay.

@Spitfire

I would say the locking mechanism has failed as it is only locking the door when you deadlock the doors.

 Roger that Wayne, cheers!

 Bought a new locking mechanism, changed over. Lock works no problem manually and remote but dash still reads boot open!!

 This is still preventing all doors from locking. Any ideas folks?

 Latest on this issue - Took the car in today to Straiton's Jaguar in Edinburgh. Following diagnostics check, they discovered 5 broken wires by the passengers footwell.

Wires repaired and it certainly remedied the Boot Open reading.

Problem with the locking however is still the same! On pressing lock, front doors are locking but rear doors remain unlocked. Any further thoughts?

 Appears to now be unlocking all doors immediately following locking with fob. Could this likely be a driver's door actuator issue as mentioned in other posts?

If it locks and unlocks fine with the key then more than likely! When I connected the used one the locks behaved perfectly! I'm going to have another go at it this weekend so will let you know how I get on

Have a look at this
