  1. That is indeed Gosford :) Thanks for the meeting heads-up. I'll check it out mate.
  2. Hi John, I did sort it mate! Did two things. Changed the O-rings on the intake air control valves and changed the spark plugs. I reckon it could just have been plugs as the ones that came out were in a state and likely the original plugs first fitted that would have now done some 85,000 miles! Drives like new since, happy days! Good luck with your own and do let me know if yours might fix the same way.
  3. I thought about doing this by converting a leaper lapel pin, but the surface is slightly concave.
  4. Cheers for that. Is there any noticeable difference between NGK and Denso plugs (other than cost!) :) Also, would the likes of a K&N CAI filter be a recommended engine mod?
  5. Hi Folks, I have just bought my first X Type, 2002 2.1L Lovely car and handles like a dream, only it has the seemingly common problem of refusing to press beyond 3,000 rpm in every gear where it shudders and does not rev until rpm's drop below 3,000 again. No problem on startup, no knocking or other obvious engine issues. I am aware this seems to be a common X Type engine issue and have read various reports of what the issues could be. My question really is - Is the fault due to one of several potential areas with the engine or is there one known fix-it that works for this? Also, is it a solution that can be self fixed or does it require garage attention? Any advice much appreciated!
  6. Hi Folks, Just bought my first X Type and keen to get her in best order. One wee thing needing sorted is the interior badge lettering as you can see here. Can anyone advise where I can buy the entire badge or individual letters? Cheers in advance for any advice!
  7. I recently purchased a drivers door locking module and went to install yesterday. Not long after starting I admitted defeat in a) - Not having a Haynes manual for my S-Type to help me along and b) - Not seeing any obvious removal methods and not wanting to force or unwittingly snap or mark anything unnecessarily. Can anyone provide a step-by-step guide to door card removal? I only managed to remove the rubber foot and remove two screws from within leather section. Any help appreciated!
  8. Appears to now be unlocking all doors immediately following locking with fob. Could this likely be a driver's door actuator issue as mentioned in other posts?
  9. Latest on this issue - Took the car in today to Straiton's Jaguar in Edinburgh. Following diagnostics check, they discovered 5 broken wires by the passengers footwell. Wires repaired and it certainly remedied the Boot Open reading. Problem with the locking however is still the same! On pressing lock, front doors are locking but rear doors remain unlocked. Any further thoughts?
  10. Have seen this one on Ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/S-Type-Jaguar-Grille-Stainless-Steel-Woven-Grill-mesh-insert-1999-2002-/171032103278?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d24ec96e Would be good to know if it's as easy by hand from sheet?
  11. Hi Folks, I'm keen to convert my 1999 S Type grill to mesh and would like to know - Would I need to purchase a specially made kit or is it possible to cut and replace from mesh sheet? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  12. Bought a new locking mechanism, changed over. Lock works no problem manually and remote but dash still reads boot open!! This is still preventing all doors from locking. Any ideas folks?
  13. Having just switched from an MG ZS 180 to an S-Type, one aspect of handling I noticed was a slight roll on tyre walls. I had the opportunity to take the S-Type along a lovely stretch of East Lothian coastline today and the handling by way of chassis and suspension was beautiful. I couldn't help think however that low profile tyres would help towards handling being a little sharper when required. Is this an option with standard S-Type (1999) wheels, or am I way off the mark here? Thanks in advance for any advice!
  14. Roger that. Can you confirm, is there any difference between the boot locking mechanism on a 1999 model and later ones?
  15. Thanks for the tip Wayne, that would seem to be the source of the problem. Have WD40'd and repeatedly opened/closed the boot but still no joy. Shall persevere.
  16. Hi Folks, New to this World, having just purchased my first Jaguar (1999 S Type) a couple of days ago. I have just noticed today that when pressing the door lock button on the fob, it sounds like doors lock and indicators flash to signal this, but doors remain unlocked. Either seems to be locking and immediately unlocking or not actually locking in first place. One other small thing is that the dash display reads Boot Open when it is securely locked. Any advice appreciated!
