jaguar on bonnet

Featured Replies

Hi guys I would like the jaguar figure on my bonnet but is it against the law even with a sprung one fitted, any advice please before I drill the bonnet.

Hi Mick, to the best of my knowledge the Jaguar figure (leaper) isn't legal in this country for "Health and Safety" reasons and if you did fit one (as many Jag owners have) you should inform your insurance company of the fact as it is considered a modification and if you were involved in an RTA and had not notified them an insurance inspector would pick up on it and your claim could be jeopardised. More discussion on this subject can be found in this forum (Jaguar S-type club) under the heading S-type poll, the last post being submitted on the subject on 16th October 2012. Hope this helps, best wishes Geoff.

Thanks Geoff for your reply, it sounds like a lot of risk to fit one I will have to think hard if its worth it, shame though I think they look cool.

hi michael. i have one on my s-type,i bought my wife one for her s-type( birthday) prestige jaguars, in paisley, told her that the local police have been giving out £60 on the spot fines--swine.i called jaguar garage in inverness, their stated position is that if it passes an m.o.t. with( sprung)leaper fitted, then it is legal.

this is ongoing, as wife has e-mailed jaguar directfor clarification, also asking them if they have ever challenged e.u. legislation, on their customers behalf, and if so--what result. will post update whn i know more.

Thanks for that nightrider, would you please keep me informed, I dont understand how the police can do that, I understand its not illegal to have one as long as its sprung , I contacted my insurance they didnt give a damn, I'm confused if they are illegal or not, I think I will contact the police and jaguar to also ask their opinion, in my opinion I think if I was pulled I'd take it to the courts and argue the case, cheers.

Hi,

I have one on my S and on my X type, my X type went through the mot with it on for past five years and I've not had any problems this past August however it was noted down as an advisory, was told that the police can give you a fine if they feel like it but not sure why? Both mine are spring loaded. If you look on the jaguarforum.co.uk you will find loads of info about this very subject.
