I have a jaguar xj  sovereign 2008 lwb with a whining noise from near side rear wheel when you reach speeds about 50 mph and above but disappears when you lift or depress throttle only seems to whine when cruising, when cruise control is engaged it seems to disappear again   ;;   does anybody have any idea what this could be         mike;;

Hi

This sounds a strange one!

My first thoughts are brake pads slightly binding.

I would jack up the wheel area and turn the wheel to hear if there are any noises, wobble the wheel side to side and up and down to check for freeplay in any bushes/joints/links.

Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure what it could be. Maybe worth putting in the garage for a diagnosis if concerned.

Regards,   Trevor
