XKR Dodgy Door Check strap

Morning chaps,

Our drivers door check strap on our '00 XKR is a bit iffy, the bolt onto the chassis leg is loose and when tightening it just spins so I can't tighten it up - As a result, I cant remove it either! 

 

The noise on opening the door is awful! - Anyone know if its a captive nut in there?

 

Problem is, I can't get in there to clamp or hold anything and can't seem to access it from inside the car. Has anyone else seen/had something similar? Is there a trick I am missing?

 

Any help or direction would be great, cheers
