Thank you both very much ! Would appear the "Car no." is the chassis or VIN number equivalent, so will give this a try !

My old 3.8S has been in a garage for about 30 years, and I've lost the registration document. To apply for a new/replacement V5C you have to submit the "VIN, chassis or frame number" - which are these ?!! The plate inside the engine compartment lists the Engine number, the Automatic Transmisson number, the Car number, and the Body number (named in that manner) - so which shall I submit ? When I telephoned their enquiries number, they couldn't help me - and at £25 per application - which they will reject if not correct ! - I would rather send in the correct identity number the first time ! Would be grateful for info from anyone who has a similar model/year 3.8S as to which number they have on their registration document, when compared with the numbers on their engine compartment plate . Thank you !
