    HI Karol,

Space saver wheels must have improved since my son's 2006 x-type.

The "offending wheel" is the one that got itself into a bad pothole on the road from Lichfield to Fradley.

    Regards,

    Peter,

P.S.  I should have said "Welcome to the Club" --  I hope you enjoy the Club as well as your car.

    Thank you Peter

Hi Karol.Thankyou for your response to my query regarding the colour of my Red XF, Also I have 19 inch alloys fitted and the only space saver spare wheels I can find are 18 inch.Any idea of the overall size of a space saver including the tyre,It’s been suggested an 18 inch spacesaver with a deeper tyre wall height would be ok.

I had the same concern as my wheels are 19'' and the spare one is 18''. At the end of the day the space saver spare wheel is designated to make you able to get to the service and with those circumstances there is no problem of using 1'' smaller spare wheel.

  3. Hello to my Jag fellows,

I am happy and proud owner of my XF Sportbrake R-Sport 2.0 D (180bhp) beauty. I had gone through the handbook a number of times. Found a lot of not obvious info (for eg. autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) works only up to 50 mph, so the salesman was right advising me not to test that) however I can't figured out why do I need to activate Adaptive Speed Limiter every time I jump in the car? If I activate that option by holding C button on my steering wheel panel or activate through settings, it remains active even after engine switched off. However after leaving the car and fully locking, when unlock and start the engine, the adaptive speed limiter is not active. I am quite annoying with the fact I have to activate that every time. Is that standard or maybe issue just with my car?

    Hi Karol,

One of my sons has a space saver on his x-type estate, which he had to use several times last winter.  He was advised not to exceed 30 mph and to get a new type for the offending wheel ASAP.

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

It says on the wheel label not to exceed 50mph. What's the "offending wheel" means?

At the risk of starting a very boring topic has anyone else had an issue with corrosion on their wheel locking nuts ? To me it is really annoying ( I know I need to get out more).

When my car was under 3 years old my locking nuts were really rusty and spoils the look of my Jag, so I brought this up with the dealer who said these werent covered under warranty, so relucantly I bought new ones, yet within 3 months these are also starting to show signs of rust.

This to me seems really poor for any car manufacturer. The answer may be to simply replace them with normal nuts as my wheels aren't anything special. In the interim I am now oiling them to try and slow the corrosion down.

Alternatively you can try stainless steel from Halfords for about £40

  6. My total cost of upgrading to space saver spare wheel was £100 for wheel and tools from eBay and £70 for foam from the dealer. It gives a piece of mind and also useful when you want to rotate your wheels (to extend tyre life) on your drive way. I do that every 6k miles.

  7. Its unlikely to be plug & play I'm afraid. I thought I can upgrade my tread plates to illuminated. Had them removed but the wiring wasn't there. My experience as Land Rover employee that JLR cars have wiring harnesses to the spec. So if your car for example doesn't have reverse camera it means to upgrade it you will also need a new harness.

That is a minus point for the XF.  When I say that, I remind myself that I have not had a puncture since 2001.  But the spare wheel does give me peace of mind.

    Peter.

I've upgraded my XF Sportbrake to space saver spare wheel for £170 (ebay) use it also when rotate my tyres.
