  1. Hi All i am hoping you can give me some advice please 

    I have another major issue with my recently purchased X type 2.2 diesel 59 plate

    The other day the car started missing and making a very loud knocking noise i originally thought it was a air flow issue but Green flag mechanic says its an injector issue causing compression problems the dealer i bought the car from are being really un helpful I have major health issues and rely greatly on my car so desperate to get it sorted but dont want to be ripped off again

    Some one said these engines are known for over metering and sending too much diesel to the injectors causing them to blow Would this be true? If so would anyone know what i should expect to pay to cure this

  2. Hope you guys can help? 

    My new 2.2 diesel x type has developed another fault today

    IT is making a very loud knocking noise and runs rough, we have traced it to the turbo or beyond? 

    We took the air filter off and when you place your hand over the air pipe to the turbo it virtually stops so sounds like the air flow hitting something is causing this 

    Would anyone have any ideas please? There are no messages displayed no smoke no Oil leaks just a loud knocking in time with the speed of the engine

  3. Hi Collected the car this afternoon and up to now.....the new turbo actuator has cleared the problem.

    He tells me the reason gearbox fault message appears is because the car thinks there is an issue with the torque selector as the car will not go in to top gear, however this is because the car is in limp mode.

    On eBay they are around £80 he has charged me with labour £150 So anyone with similar issues may want to try this first and expect to pay around this amount

Hi Rod Yes the ride is a little hard but as you say holds the road great Once i get the issues sorted i want to take her over Snake Pass which is a great driving road from Manchester to Sheffield. I dont mind paying for the service and maybe the box Oil to be changed as the dealer has agreed to pay for the faults to be fixed If i can in the Autumn i fancy doing the NC500 around Scotland and the X type will be perfect for that

    Hi Alan Mine has a few small bubbles here and there on the window seals too 

  5. Ha, yes things happening in threes Alan. I agree the retro feel is great i have always had older cars as my daily drivers mainly Mercedes but i had a 98 XJ8 for a while but it was crumbling before my eyes so it had to go

    Unfortunately i became ill a few months back and sold my old CLK 320 and bought a Pug 3008 for sensible reliability and although a perfectly good car i cant bond or attach to it so i have always liked the X type and although relatively modern it has that classic feel, i really love it. Your  MPG sounds like mine so it must be right, its certainly better than the CLK ( 21 to 28 ) Hope your X behaves itself and hopefully mine will once the issues are sorted

    I too have just bought an X Type 2.2 diesel on a 59 plate ( same colour ) so i understand it will have the dipf filters mentioned as its a late model. Its interesting to read about the regeneration Tom talks about i had no idea. I have booked it in with the Jag Man a local indie Jag specialist near me for a full service  and i have inquired about changing the auto box Oil, the car has done 80,000 miles . I had a E39 5 series BMW on a W reg a few years back and there was always debate about whether you should or shouldn't change the Oil The Jag Man says you should and Tom backs this up so i will have it done

    It unfortunately developed a fault on the way back which after diagnostics turns out to be the Turbo Actuator has failed causing limp mode, gearbox fault message and heater plug lights to flash The dealer i bought the car from is paying for this under warranty. I love the car and am very happy with it The MPG is not great but i blame that on the fault and car in limp mode Should i be expecting around 48 mpg extra urban? Or am i being greedy? It currently giving around 42

    I am new here too after just buying a 59 plate x type 2.2 diesel. On the way home from the garage 50 miles or so i stopped at the services when i re started as i put my foot down on the M1 i got flashing heater light and gearbox fault message car went into limp mode

    Taken it to an Indie Jag Specialist and he has diagnosed Turbo Actuator has failed causing the car to think there is an issue with torque selector He is replacing the actuator next week which he tells me will clear the other fault. He wants £150 for the actuator fitted which seems ok to me 

    Dont know if this helps?
