Hi, I can only comment on the facelift S, I am on my second. I just love them, good MPG I'm showing low 40's on the trip, but rarely drive in sports mode. Bags of power, so much I decided against the map I had looked up before buying second S. My favourite thing is the 8 speed box, it's so smooth. Personally if driven by cost, I would plump for a higher mileage facelift S as long as it has had the belts done. They look way better IMO and think they got the 8 speed rather than six speed box. Hope this helps.

I believe (but may be wrong about this) that the facelifted 3.0 V6 (S and non-S) took a couple of years to gain the 8-speed gearbox, and retained the 6? I'm but a lowly 2.2 owner, and my 2012 car has the 8-speed, but I think the manual notes the 2.2 had the 8 speed and the 3.0 had the 6 speed at the time of building.

My XF is due it’s 10 year service soon so I contacted a local Jaguar independent garage for a quote.

I’ve asked for the cam belt, fuel pump belt, tensioners and water pump to be changed.

They have replied with prices but have advised that the rear fuel pump belt and water pump don’t really need to be done.

Should I have them done anyway or leave them?

The car has done nearly 80k and only does about 6k a year, it’s a 3.0D.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

I’m in the same position with my 2.2d. 10 years but slightly higher mileage than yours at 99k. Out of interest, may I ask you what prices they quoted you? I definitely need to do the cambelt for peace of mind.

    Welcome to the club/forum.

As for electrical/battery problems, these are Jaguars and you will soon grasp that they are charge hungry. Parasitic drain is very common and you will need to keep your battery in good condition and well charged. The popular piece of equipment is a CTEK MS 7 0r MS 10, Charger/Re-conditioner.  I put my S-Type on a CTEK MS 7 as often as I can and certainly at least once per month. It really does stop a lot of unnecessary yellow light and messages that are only generated because of low battery charge.  Well worth the investment and effort to keep battery in good condition and charge.

    Best Wishes and Regards, John

Thank you John, really good advice there.  Would you recommend the 7 or the 10 other one another, or would both do a satisfactory job? Also, haven’t had a car needing its batteries charged before, does one need to remove the battery for charging? Thank you very much.

Stop/start what is the message. These car need a healtly fully charged battery for stop/start to work.

There is a recent post if you do a search on the vents, from memory 1 of 2 parts will have fail and probably need replacing.

Sure someone will give you some garage recommendations in your area.

Thank you, will take a look at replacing the parts that need doing. Also the battery issue, I think the battery was replaced (along with alternator) fairly recently, but may not be up to scratch.

  5. Good evening all,

I would like some advice on my very new (to me) 2012 Jaguar XF 2.2 Premium Luxury I acquired just yesterday.

Firstly: Start/stop does not appear to function- the dashboard display says there is an error with this when pressing the start/stop button off and on. Would this be a battery issue, or something else?

Secondly: the air vent to the right of the steering wheel does not swivel open when starting the car/A/C. It can be manually opened, and does (with a little jolty movement) close automatically when the car is stopped. It's no huge issue, but obviously something I would like to correct if possible.

Finally: the car has 99,000 miles on the clock, and at ten years old I do believe it requires a cambelt change. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a reliable and affordable garage/dealership in the West Midlands, and what sort of price I would be looking at for this, and possibly also a decent service.

Thank you very much in advance, and I look forward to exploring the forum further.
