  1. Hi Mitch, I am sure if you search the internet, someone will have a video of replacing the convertible top on the X-150 cars. If the top needs a manual reset, it does NOT have to be taken to a dealer as the manual reset procedure is clearly explained in the Owners Handbook, around page 111. It is typically a 2-person task, so need someone to assist. N6 JMX
  2. Hi Paul, yes the kit is a simple plug in and set up. Cartronics are in Surrey, which should be relatively close to you from Essex and you can simply email them as a kick-off to get their advice and a cost. The Cartronics link is below: https://www.cartronics.co.uk/ The Aux port is under the lid of the centre cubby, beside the "dummy slot" to insert the key fob.   3. Hi Paul, with the early (2006) X-150, it is relatively simple to add Apple CarPlay / Android Auto as a feature. There is a simple kit that plugs into the "Aux" port in the centre console. Search for people like Cartronics or the Jag Wrangler to seek out more information. N6 JMX
  4. German Jaguar Dealers are very good and very helpful. Depends where you are, but Baden Baden and Kempen are both places I have had occasion to talk with them and both times very helpful. Jaguar is sometimes hidden behind Ford and Volvo at smaller German towns. Getting codes read should be simple. N6 JMX
  5. Hi John, this is quite an uncommon problem and the potential fix is either wonderfully simple, or a world of pain. The fuel filler door is locked in place by a solenoid activated pin that is driven through the hinge pin of the door when locked. The solenoid retracts the pin when the switch is activated by the panel adjacent to your right knee. If the solenoid can be heard clicking, then that is good in that you may be able to "free" it, but if the solenoid is dead, then that's a major strip down. Assuming that you can hear the solenoid clicking when you activate the release button, then with an assistant to work the switch, get yourself a plastic trim tool and try to "jiggle" the door open as the solenoid is activated. The locking pin may be sticking within the hole in the hinge and by jiggling the filler door, it may release and once open, you can investigate and lubricate. Second trick is to try and get a lubricant, such as WD 40 into the area of the pin and again here you need the trim tool to allow the door to be opened towards the rear - remember the hinge is at the forward centreline of the filler door (3 o'clock), so you are aiming the lubrication tube in the direction of 3 o'clock. It may be that you aim across from the 9 o'clock position, or vertically up from the 5 o'clock. Again after that, try jiggling the door while the solenoid is activated by an assistant. If the solenoid is dead, or the above options don't produce the result of allowing the door to open and the pin to be addressed, then the next option is to remove the rear wheel and arch liner to allow you to see the solenoid cabling and possible an emergency release.   6. Afraid this is likely to need the assistance of a "friendly" Jaguar Dealer as they are the only ones able to access the database securely. Online scammers are out there and will tell you they can unlock codes, but beware. N6 JMX
  7. This is normal and I think is the cabin air monitoring system - it is a (very) small fan. It can get noisy, but it should shut off after around 20 minutes. Helps if the car cannot "see" the keys. N6 JMX
  8. I think you will find the turn indicator relays and protection are in the Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) which is located behind the centre section rear passenger seat back. However, there are NO fuses on the X-150, all exterior lights are protected by FET. The following is extracted from the Workshop Manual: CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX AND AUXILIARY JUNCTION BOX: The CJB (central junction box) is an integrated unit located in the passenger compartment LH (left-hand) side on the 'A' pillar. The Auxiliary Junction Box (AJB) is located in a central position, behind the rear seat. CJB (central junction box) Control: The CJB (central junction box) receives inputs from the following switches via the instrument cluster and the medium speed CAN (controller area network) bus: • LH (left-hand) steering column multifunction switch Side lamp position Headlamp position Automatic (AUTO) position Timer delay positions Turn signal indicators Headlamp flash and high beam • Stop lamp switch • Hazard flasher switch • Sunload/Light sensor. The following lamps are controlled by the CJB (central junction box) : • Front side lamps • Front side marker lamps • Headlamps • Cornering lamps • Front fog lamps. AJB Control The following lamps are controlled by the AJB: • Rear fog lamp • Reverse lamp • Stop lamps • High mounted stop lamp • Rear side lamps • Rear side marker lamps • Licence plate lamps • Front and rear turn signal indicators and side repeaters The AJB is also connected via a hardwired connection to the hazard flasher switch. Circuit Protection: The AJB and the CJB (central junction box) provide circuit protection for all exterior lighting circuits. The exterior lighting circuits are protected by Field Effect Transistors (FETs). Operation of the exterior lighting circuits is protected by the FETs which can detect overloads and short circuits. The FETs respond to heat generated by increased current flow caused by a short circuit. On a normal circuit this would cause the fuse to blow. The FETs respond to the heat increase and disconnect the power supply to the affected circuit. When the fault is rectified or the FET has cooled, the FET will reset and operate the circuit normally. If the fault persists the FET will cycle, disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply. The CJB (central junction box) and the AJB store fault codes which can be retrieved using a Jaguar approved diagnostic system. The fault code will identify that there is a fault on a particular output which will assist with fault detection. N6 JMX

  14. Hi Philip, sometimes a low mileage can be as damaging to car parts as high mileage. Brakes and tyres are the primary safety elements of the vehicle, so the dealer, by law must make you aware if "his expert" considers them to be less than safe. Look up the parts on the Jaguar website and procure them yourself from somewhere like Berkshire Jaguar, these are original parts, just not in the luxurious Jaguar Branded box. Remember that you will likely need a wear sensor as well. Then find a friendly local garage to change the brake discs and pads on a labour only basis - probably 2 hours for all 4 to be renewed. You do have options, just need to think beyond the Main Dealer who probably doesn't want to do the job in any event. N6 JMX

Of course you then need to fit it yourself, or get a local shop (trim and / or body) to remove the old version and install the new. Not too bad a task in the XK with it having the full tailgate.   16. If the alternator is outputting 14.58V, can you read that going to the battery? Given the starting point, I would look to insert a battery to the car that I know is good. You indicate less than 12 months old for the currently installed battery, but it may have a dead cell which would explain just about everything the car is throwing up. Do you have a friendly auto shop, or the place where you purchased your battery that will loan you a good battery to make the checks? Don't simply jump a slave battery onto the car, remove the original and insert the replacement. N6 JMX
  17. Hi Karl, do you mean your car has the central Satnav screen as opposed to the more desirable 3 dials in the centre of the dashboard? There is a very easy DIY modification to replace the central screen with a latest Garmin Satnav, which gives significant more functionality, including lifetime free updates, the ability to add a reversing camera, etc. If this is something that you might like to consider, if you send me a PM with an email address, I can forward you a detailed instruction page. If you want to stick with the original, out of date Satnav, then don't bother with updated discs as there are lots of reports of pirate discs corrupting the system and leaving a bigger headache than you might think.   18. Hi Ary, obviously a well used example of the Modern XK. The engines are good for galactic mileage, so provided that has been well maintained / serviced, it should be good. However, you should really see sight of the service records as the most recent MoT, today, initially showed as a Fail, due to worn tyre. It also appears to have been of the road / untaxed for 3 months or so. By the age and mileage, both the auxiliary belt and the supercharger belt should already have been changed - check these have been undertaken. Similarly, the gearbox oil and filter should have been changed - twice by this mileage, see if there is any evidence, if not it should be a top priority once in your ownership. Even with the aluminium body, corrosion can still be an issue. There are steel components underneath the car and one with this sort of mileage could well have underbody issue, which are insufficient for MoT failure, but worrisome to a new owner. Suspension bushes may have been replaced, if not, then again a high priority task in your ownership. Good luck and I hope you have many enjoyable adventures in your new XK. N6 JMX
  19. Hmmm, that's a strange one, but it would not be the first time DVLA have made an error. Don't quite get how a V5 would have been issued in 2008 / 2009 showing the car to be "first registered in 2010"? It might be worth a conversation with DVLA, they are actually quite helpful once you get past the initial stage, as these discrepancies might cause issues come sale time. N6 JMX
  20. Hi Clive, perhaps your car has a "personal plate" attached from a previous owner? You can apparently decipher the Model Year, often different from the registration year, by checking the 10th character of the VIN. For newer cars the 10th character is a letter, not a number. Hi Michael, the factory fit sound system in the 2002 - 2003 Modern XK is not a simple change since the head unit, whilst looking like a standard DIN block, is part of the centre console incorporating the climate controls, auxiliary light switches, etc. and I do not believe a simple exchange for the head unit is readily available. That said, there will be specialist in-car audio folks that will be able to suggest alternatives. For instance, if your car has the in-dash Satnav screen, there is a relatively simple upgrade to a modern Garmin solution, which can also incorporate a rear view camera. However, if the car is fitted with the, more desirable, 3-dials, then a separate Satnav is the way to go. As for the original post from Sam to install a pop-out / tilt-up screen that incorporates modern ICE and Satnav, this is not likely to be possible because of the interference created between the position of the gearshift and the radio block. A lot of folks keep their dash original and that may be the reason for a lack of response, but if you check out your local in-car audio specialist and do come up with a solution, come back and tell us all.   23. Hi John, this is a bit of a debate about the length of string! Modern cars such as your X-100 will run perfectly fine on E10 fuel as the ECU (brain) will assess and compensate for the higher quantity of ethanol (the E) and the subsequent lower energy density. Logically, the car's perform marginally better on E5, because of the higher energy density, which may also give rise to a marginal increase in the MPG, but lots of different parameters play out on that issue so it would be a pure side benefit. As to the rubber hoses, yes, ethanol will degrade the rubber hoses in fuel systems, but the reality is that the fuel system has already been exposed to ethanol during its life span on standard unleaded before the introduction of E5 and E10. Would you need to replace the hoses in a 24 year old fuel system, yes. Would you need to do it sooner when using E10, not necessarily, but it is a wise precaution but on an age related basis as opposed to a pure E10 related basis. Hope this helps. N6 JMX
  24. There are various options to attempt to replace the rechargeable batteries within the "auxiliary sounder" which is what folks are referring to here, i.e. not the main alarm sounder. The auxiliary sounder is generally located in the wing arch, behind the headlight. However, I understand that the original batteries are not generally available. It is additionally complicated due to there being a change of design to the auxiliary sounder, so need to check whish you have. N6 JMX
  25. Hi Carl, are you certain that the car has sufficient coolant volume within the system? If running hot with no thermostat, then I would check for a coolant system blockage, i.e. radiator flush required. This is best undertaken with the radiator removed from the vehicle. Invert the radiator and back flush. Also, back flush the heater matrix, which should be easily accomplished with the thermostat already removed. In addition, fully check the external condition of the radiator, bent or damaged fins can also cause issues. N6 JMX
