  1. Hi Graham, sounds like an unfortunate experience there, but hopefully you can get it all back and working again. For the roof, you need to test with a multi meter that voltages are getting to the correct place, i.e. the correct fuse - remember that a fuse can "look" fine but only a resistance test would confirm, - the switch in the roof, etc. Can you hear any relay clicks as the roof switch is operated? In normal circumstances, the operation of the roof would not be linked to the replacement engine, but with Jaguar you never can tell. For the fan 1, could it be as simple as a connector loose / not reseated correctly after the engine installation. The fan should generate a fault code (DTC) of some description which can be read with an OBD code reader, which in turn would help point you in the right direction. N6 JMX
  2. Have you "told" the car it has a new battery? The car's brain needs to be informed that there is a new battery fitted so it adjusts the charging rates from the alternator. Use either a decent code reader, or a friendly local garage with the appropriate diagnostic equipment. Alternatively, may be something more insidious in the ECU or wiring. N6 JMX
  3. Hi Alan, there are a number of proprietary kits available to retrofit power steering to your Mk 2, with EZ Electric Power Steering being one of the leading options. SNG Barrett are stockists and dealers for the EZ system. If you are looking for a specialist in your area, I note you are Lanarkshire, then you could do worse than contact MacMillan Jaguar (Motherwell) or Prestige Jaguar (Paisley). Both can be found by typing into a search engine, but if you have any difficulty, come back here and i can post contact details. N6 JMX
  4. The other thing to ensure is that you are using a reputable, e.g. Duracell / Energizer / etc. key fob battery which has not been purchased from the internet, but a local supermarket or similar. It is not unknown that internet providers are selling defective batteries. You already purchased the battery, but for reference it should be a CR 2032 N6 JMX
  5. Hi Philip, unfortunately there are several "Newlands" spread across the UK so an internet search is unlikely to turn up any specific Jaguar dealership from 1966. However, you may get some clue from the car's original registration number as these were issued by the local county council back in the day. At least it might help you narrow your search. N6 JMX
  6. The contacts inside the key fob are quite fragile, make sure they are not damaged after your replacement battery fit, and in good contact with the battery faces. N6 JMX
  7. Oops, cancel my earlier post, Jaguar Classic is not yet updated for the F-type parts. Alternatively you could try Swallows Racing, link below. Swallows Jaguar Specialist | Servicing, Performance & Motorsport for JLR N6 JMX
  8. Hi Batista, check out the Jaguar Classic Parts website to obtain the appropriate part numbers and you can use that to make a wider internet search. Link is below, but be aware that due to the recent cyber attack, the site is not processing any online orders at present - even if they had the parts in stock. 9. Hi Nihal, asking for advice for a part based only on a number, which may or may not be correct is not likely to yield much in the way of a response. Add a description / location of what you are looking for and you may have more success. Alternatively, you / your friend can check out the Jaguar Classic Parts website to get more details - although due to the recent cyber attack, no online order processing, should they have the part, is happening right now. 10. You can also add some heat to the area with a hairdryer or heat gun, gently, so as to soften the backing tape. It is similar to the sticky back on the latest wheel balance weights. Tar remover and heat is a good solvent to remove the residue. N6 JMX
  11. Hi David, lots of places will sell the aftermarket versions, but finding a decent set of the OEM black centre caps could be more testing. Try places like DCR AutoParts, who are a specialist Jaguar supplier based in Inverness, or one of the specialist Breakers such as Auto Reserve. Both easily located by a search engine, or come back here and I can post links for you. N6 JMX
  12. Hi Thomas, I am a believer in the fault likely arises from the last action you took - you removed the washer pump and put it back into place - therefore by my thinking you have likely disturbed some element of the power supply wiring, most likely the earth. But perhaps that's just me being optimistic. Don't spiral to conclusions until you can get a meter onto the pump terminals to confirm you have the correct voltages where they should be. N6 JMX
  13. Probably not vehicle specific, but best refer to original supplier's website for more information. If it's a towbar mounted version, probably good for most vehicles with a towbar fitted. N6 JMX
  14. Hi Rebecca, assuming you can get into the car itself, open the bonnet. There you will find a suitable positive and negative post to allow you to fit a 12v power source, such as a battery charger or power pack. This will allow the whole car to power up and you will be able to pop open the boot, using the interior switch or boot lid button, to put the charger leads direct onto the battery. Do not try and start the car from a flat battery situation using the under bonnet posts. I don't believe the secret keyhole will work with a completely flat battery as it still relies on the electrical solenoid to energise the unlock circuit. N6 JMX
  15. Hi Eddie, the information said to unlock the driver's door with the black key - nothing about starting the car with the black key. N6 JMX
  16. Hi Eddie, if I remember correctly, the XK8 has a "Valet" button on the fob which must have been activated - pressed inadvertently. To reset out of Valet mode, you need to unlock the car - driver's door, from fully locked, using the black headed key - not any of the fobs. For some reason, this information is not contained in the Owners Manual. N6 JMX
  17. Hi Philip, the onset of the GDPR legislation means it is very difficult to obtain historic information of a personal nature. The registration number of AGG 7 is most likely a personal / cherished plate as date related plates were already in use by DVLA at that time. The number assigned in 1999 is most likely its original assigned number that was never issued on a plate as the personal plate was retrieved from the car. Have you tried looking up the MoT history at DVLA? This may provide some clues as to where the car was located during its lifetime - try searching using both numbers. N6 JMX
  18. Hi Kevin, it would be helpful if you gave a bit more information about the diff issue to allow folks to assess what type of service / assistance you might need. From memory, there was an episode of "Salvage Hunters Classic Cars" with Paul Cowland taking a differential to a specialist who worked from his garden shed in the Northeast of England. This guy completely rebuilt the diff - is that the level of service you are seeking? N6 JMX
  19. Hi Martin, welcome to the Forum. If you have an XK8, why post a picture of the F-type? N6 JMX
  20. Hi Andy, welcome to the Forum and great job doing all that commissioning work yourself. N6 JMX
  21. Hi Daniel, I think you are confused. The original post above refers to shockers for the XFS model, whilst you need to look at the shockers for the X-type model. A quick check on the Jaguar Classic Parts website indicates that the shocks for the X-type are around £150 per corner, which doesn't sound too bad. The shocks are obviously model specific, but also vary by the VIN, so you need to make checks to ensure you get the correct parts for your car. Check out at the link below - once you have the part numbers, you can search for suitable alternatives from other sources. 22. Hi Robert, you should also look into the legality of adding a Leaper to the front of your XJS as, since it wasn't an original factory fit, it may well be considered a pedestrian injury hazard. I believe there are ways to "mitigate" such hazard, but it involves cutting a major hole in the bonnet and having the Leaper spring loaded so as to disappear inside the bonnet in the event of an interaction with a pedestrian. Like Dave above says, it will not be to everyone's taste and folks tend to look for originality. N6 JMX
  23. Welcome to the Forum, lots of great advice available on here so don't be afraid to ask. Do you mean the door covering the petrol cap isn't locking when the car is locked? Perhaps the slider that engages with the door is in need of some coaxing and lubrication. N6 JMX
  24. Cheers Anthony, I have actually met your acquaintance and sent a few folks his way at CAP! N6 JMX
  25. Hi Anthony, you have keyless entry and pulling the door handle whilst still having the keys on your person will unlock the door you are pulling on. Try double locking the vehicle - press the lock button twice and have the vehicle chirp to you. Walk away and put the keys at least 2 metres from the car and then walk back to try the door pull again. N6 JMX
