Hi Russ, you definitely need the 2 x moveable hatches to be in place to keep everything working as it should. As you probably realise, the hatches retract and return under a spring damper action, where the dampers are connected by the cords - which can fail. I don't know if you are a member of the JEC and can therefore access the back copies of the JE magazine via the JEC website (currently under reconstruction) but there is an article in the May 2023 Modern XK column, which highlights the problem and it's repair solution. If you don't have the ability to access these back issues, then send me a PM via this site with an email address for yourself and I can send you PDF copies of the article. N6 JMX

Does the removal of Gerry McGovern, the architect of the woke advert and rebranding, have any deeper meaning in the future of JLR? He is the JLR Executive that stood on the podium (almost 1 year ago) at the unveiling of the Type 00 and stated that Jaguar was not interested in its heritage customers! This did create a bit of outrage at the time, but was shushed over by others in support of the woke approach. Coincidental that the new CEO - from the Tata parent group, replacing Mardell, has only just taken full control of the company when McGovern departure is announced? N6 JMX

Hi Paul, your problem is the fact that your "new" car is fitted with metric sized wheels, which was somewhat of a failed experiment back in those days - mostly affects BMW. As the other "Jim" has outlined above, you should be able to get replacements from Longstone, although you may have to wait on incoming stock. Quite rightly though, you should not be driving on tyres manufactured in the late 1980's. N6 JMX

It's really just the one contact that poses the problem, the one you can see above the battery when it's in place. Gently bend it in towards the battery, whilst you have the battery out of the slot, to move it to give a firmer contact. Also rub some emery paper across the inside face - gently - to aid the contact. Also, be sure to purchase quality battery replacements from a reputable source. The CR2032 bought from online sources can be duds. N6 JMX

Jaguar xk150
N6 JMX replied to Jagman1642's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Colin, you indicate your problem is with the X-150 model, but your profile descripting infers you have the X-100 model from 2001, need to clarify which model you have the issue with. Before you changed the battery, did you have any need to jump start the car? If yes, then you may have fried the video screen that is the display in the X-150 model. N6 JMX- 1 reply

XK8 1999 lights flickering/engine throb!
N6 JMX replied to Neil Price's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Sounds like time to check the alternator. N6 JMX -
Check the internal contacts are properly connecting within the key fob, they are a bit fragile and easily bent away from the contact face. N6 JMX

Hi John, there are a number of specialist suppliers who can advise you on possible solutions for your X-type. Need to be careful with what you eventually go with as some bulb conversions can end up as MoT failures. Talk to the good folks at "Better Car Lighting". Website at: www.bettercarlighting.co.uk Other companies are available. N6 JMX

Hi Andrew, welcome to the Forum, hope it all goes well for you. In future, you may want to post your questions in the correct area of the Forum. This post is in the X-type area and you want to be posting future requests on the 1999 XK8 in the X-100 section, a bit higher up the page. N6 JMX

There is an article in the JEC magazine, January 2021, on a successful repair to the interior mirror problem. It was resolved by spending a bit of time and effort to separate the existing mirror parts, make a template of the mirror glass and have a local glass company cut a new standard mirror piece to use in its place. The correct Jaguar part replacement is unlikely to be available and when it was / is costs roughly £400 and second hand units are just as likely to fail in the same manner as your original. If you want to go hunting for an original replacement, get the correct part number from the Jaguar Classic parts website and run your search. The chap in the magazine article did just that, but ended up with a repair for just £10.50 and a few lessons learned. For the leaking boot, check the seals around the periphery of the opening, especially at the top edges, could be a corrosion issue. N6 JMX

Look at the SNG Barrett website for a good alternator at sensible prices. N6 JMX

Hi Andy, not sure what you are after here as the LED elements for the rear lights are not available as individual lamps, but as a feature part of the rear lamp cluster. Go to the Jaguar Classic Parts website and you will be able to see which part numbers you ned to be looking for. Note that JLR Classic are not yet back to selling online spares following the cyber attack. The link below should take you to the correct page, but as you will see, the parts are VIN specific. Hi Alan, unfortunate damage to your sump, but becoming more prevalent as our roads network continues to deteriorate - and its only going to be getting worse. For a suitable replacement engine, speak to the good folks at Auto Reserve or Eurojag, easily found by an online search, but if you have trouble finding them, come back here for more help. N6 JMX

Are the glow plugs working - it's a diesel? N6 JMX

Hi Lez, I agree with John above. My own Jaguar has been under warranty from new - Jaguar extended - and it is definitely a "peace of mind" thing. I reckon had I followed John's advice, I would be quid's in by now, but once you are in the warranty cycle, it is very difficult to step off it. N6 JMX

x351 panoramic roof not working
N6 JMX replied to grahamwturner's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi Graham, sounds like an unfortunate experience there, but hopefully you can get it all back and working again. For the roof, you need to test with a multi meter that voltages are getting to the correct place, i.e. the correct fuse - remember that a fuse can "look" fine but only a resistance test would confirm, - the switch in the roof, etc. Can you hear any relay clicks as the roof switch is operated? In normal circumstances, the operation of the roof would not be linked to the replacement engine, but with Jaguar you never can tell. For the fan 1, could it be as simple as a connector loose / not reseated correctly after the engine installation. The fan should generate a fault code (DTC) of some description which can be read with an OBD code reader, which in turn would help point you in the right direction. N6 JMX -
Air bag light comes on and then the tyre pressure warning.
N6 JMX replied to Ash Broady's topic in Jaguar F-Type Club
Have you "told" the car it has a new battery? The car's brain needs to be informed that there is a new battery fitted so it adjusts the charging rates from the alternator. Use either a decent code reader, or a friendly local garage with the appropriate diagnostic equipment. Alternatively, may be something more insidious in the ECU or wiring. N6 JMX -
Hi Alan, there are a number of proprietary kits available to retrofit power steering to your Mk 2, with EZ Electric Power Steering being one of the leading options. SNG Barrett are stockists and dealers for the EZ system. If you are looking for a specialist in your area, I note you are Lanarkshire, then you could do worse than contact MacMillan Jaguar (Motherwell) or Prestige Jaguar (Paisley). Both can be found by typing into a search engine, but if you have any difficulty, come back here and i can post contact details. N6 JMX

The other thing to ensure is that you are using a reputable, e.g. Duracell / Energizer / etc. key fob battery which has not been purchased from the internet, but a local supermarket or similar. It is not unknown that internet providers are selling defective batteries. You already purchased the battery, but for reference it should be a CR 2032 N6 JMX

Hi Philip, unfortunately there are several "Newlands" spread across the UK so an internet search is unlikely to turn up any specific Jaguar dealership from 1966. However, you may get some clue from the car's original registration number as these were issued by the local county council back in the day. At least it might help you narrow your search. N6 JMX

The contacts inside the key fob are quite fragile, make sure they are not damaged after your replacement battery fit, and in good contact with the battery faces. N6 JMX

Oops, cancel my earlier post, Jaguar Classic is not yet updated for the F-type parts. Alternatively you could try Swallows Racing, link below. Swallows Jaguar Specialist | Servicing, Performance & Motorsport for JLR N6 JMX

Hi Batista, check out the Jaguar Classic Parts website to obtain the appropriate part numbers and you can use that to make a wider internet search. Link is below, but be aware that due to the recent cyber attack, the site is not processing any online orders at present - even if they had the parts in stock. Looking for PART OR ALTERNATIVE/ AFTERMARKET PARTS
N6 JMX replied to nihalshah's topic in 1981 to 1994 XJ
Hi Nihal, asking for advice for a part based only on a number, which may or may not be correct is not likely to yield much in the way of a response. Add a description / location of what you are looking for and you may have more success. Alternatively, you / your friend can check out the Jaguar Classic Parts website to get more details - although due to the recent cyber attack, no online order processing, should they have the part, is happening right now. N6 JMX -
You can also add some heat to the area with a hairdryer or heat gun, gently, so as to soften the backing tape. It is similar to the sticky back on the latest wheel balance weights. Tar remover and heat is a good solvent to remove the residue. N6 JMX
