EML light & overheating

Good evening to all.
Just bought 2002 3.0 V6 X-type. Had engine management light come on, driving to work in morning around 20miles, temp gauge hardly moves, but coming home says overheating, stopped and checked but no probs under hood, after a couple of minutes start engine and normal running temp. Have 3 month warranty from garage but wondering if this could be something small. Any help would be nice.
