Hi
You have to remove the felt lining from the wheel well and the felt cover over the battery. There is then enough room for a full sized wheel. I got a used rim in new condition from eBay and a tyre. I could not cope with the silly pump and pot of goo that came with the car!!!

I have a 2010 XF 3 litre petrol engine. I wish to buy a spare wheel but I am unable to fit it into the boot because the battery takes so much room and on my measurements the wheel will not fir in the well.
Is this normal on all XF's or just the petrol version

Welcome to the Club, Col.
It does look very like a new battery. I have heard that when a modern battery dies, it dies quickly.
It could be worth taking if off and having it tested --- but they are a fair weight to carry.
My S Type had a new battery in 2012 -- when it was 5 years old.
Regards,
Peter.
I part exchanged my X type D just recently, as I had owned the car for 9 years having purchased it when it was 1 year old. It was time for a change. The car always started first time whatever the weather and I never replaced the battery in all that time. I hope the battery on my XF 3 litre V6 lasts as long!

Spare Wheel For XF

Hi Rodney,
I can speak only for the 2010 XF 3 litre petrol version and I don't know if you have the same body layout. With my car, if you remove the felt lining to the spare wheel space and also the felt battery cover you have enough room for a full sized spare tyre with the boot floor fitting OK on top.
Like you, I was unhappy with the goo and pump.
Tony.
