  1. Hi all, try as I might cannot reset the service message light came on last week.

Tried the reset procedure seen on various posts to no avail.

What happens if I ignore it?

Had the oil/filter changed about 6weeks ago.

Should I do a 'hard reset' taking the battery leads off, or can it be reset with a code reader?

    Any help much appreciated.

  2. Had a scary experience the other day when approaching a roundabout, applied the brakes which initially worked then applied more pressure and brakes faded to nothing, just managed to stop in time.

Think it might be the servo, I have a warranty which I hope will cover the costs so in accordance with their policy have booked the car in at Halfords for a free brake check.

My car 2.7d s type has only done 78k I wonder if this is a common fault with the model?

  3. Glad you got sorted, when I bought my house 20yrs ago I wasn't that bothered that the previous owner had converted the double garage into a single using the other half for an extra bedroom.

Now I have the big cat it's a bit of a squeeze to get her in the garage, but retracting the mirrors and being very careful I can get in and out, I have a ball on a string to indicate how far to go in. Happy days...................

  4. Bought a 2006 2.7d se yesterday and spent some time trying to pair my phone with bluetooth, not successful so far, it must work as the previous owners phone numbers were still in the memory!

Also discovered 'voice' is fitted so will have some fun getting that to recognise me as well! early days yet but wow what a quiet engine compared to my previous x type which sounded like a bag of spanners!

  5. Hi all, ever since I purchased my cat last year I have been plagued by a faulty rev counter, it has a mind of it's own and only works now and again, I have to constantly reset it on the Test feature but it doesn't last long. The battery is showing 11.8 volts with engine off and 14 volts when running, so could it be a sticky needle or a fuse/wiring problem?

If I have to replace the whole cluster do I have to get a replacement specific to my model or will anyone do?

I even resorted to blanking out the rev counter display so I couldn't see it because it is right in your line of sight! then I realised of course I wouldn't be able to see the warning lights!!

  6.  Hi, I bought a 2005 xtype estate 2.2d last year with 70000 on the clock and 12 mth MOT but it had a full Jaguar service history so I was reasonably confident until I took it to my local Jag dealer for a full service. :( They highlighted several things mainly the fact that the brakes needed new discs and pads all round, various Oil leaks etc etc, the upshot was they wanted to charge me a cool 2500 to get the car up to their standards. My local Indy checked out the brakes bearing in mind the 12 mth MOT reckoning I should get at least another year or so out of them, the Oil leaks were miniscule bearing in mind they are Oil burners anyway. Basically he said Jaguar want to bring an old car up to their standard as it left the factory if people are prepared to pay for that fair play.

I am very happy with my car it goes like a rocket and puts a smile on my face when I drive it.

With regards to a Terraclean, the cost certainly is a factor but I would do my research, go on other Forums as well as this one of course, a lot of people make do with cleaning the EGR and blanking plates etc.

    Good luck.

  7. I  use "every little helps" diesel mainly because of the money off vouchers and have also noticed a drop off in mpg. Next time I fill up I will be adding 200ml of 2 stroke Oil as this helps with performance and higher mpg as I'm led to believe from members of another jag forum.

  8. Hi all, I seem to have an intermittent fault with the rev counter which seems to work when it feels like it. On a run recently it stopped working for no reason I was making sure I had nothing else switched on cd/radio/satnav, no warning lights come on either. Is it a sticking needle on the dial or fuse?

    Any suggestions appreciated..

  9. Hi, I am also  a new owner (3 weeks), my cat is the first one I have bought and so far am loving it even though it's 9yrs old but in good condition and only 70,000 miles on the clock which isn't much for a 2.2 diesel lump. I was interested in your experience with the dealer (they never cease to amaze me) hope everything works out ok for you.

The 2nd week I had my car I had an interim service at my local jag dealer mainly because the previous owner used jag exclusively for everything (he was a doctor) wished I hadn't because surprise surprise a load of faults (brake discs/suspension/oil leaks) were found. Needless to say I can't afford their prices and had a 2nd opinion from an indy garage in my village who has treated me well before.

The upshot is that no work needs doing at the present time but I'm keeping an eye out.

The moral of the story was summed up by my local mechanic "all jag want from you is the contents of your wallet!"

    Regards.
