Hi
I also had a very dirty air filter on purchase so BEWARE it may also effect the MAF sensors within the intake pipes-I suggest a squirt of electrical cleaner-as otherwise a dirty AMF sensor will effect the fuel/air mix.

Hmmm....interesting,actually had ABS and DSC faults but no error codes recently.
On looking at Jaguars manual the auto transmission collects info from the above and could put the box into a limp home format to protect the transmission but i will be checking the fluid levels in due course.
Thank you for your input.
Any other ideas appreciated bearing in mind im not illiterate-ie spelling fault-thought in the heading....silly me ;-)

Hi all,
Jaguar S type diesel automatic sport 118k 05 plate.
Yesterday did a 120 mile journey, mainly motorway with no issues UNTIL i stopped for 3 hours returned to the car and boom.....gearbox fault in display panel and only the first two gears available...any ideas gratefully received!

"witch?"......we will be talking dragons and goblins next-said very tongue in cheek of course ha ha

Try connecting the car up to its OBD2 port and see if it throws up any fault codes.
-
Have you tried connecting your car to a OBD2?-See if it throws up a fault to one of the 3 cylinders on that side?

Hi
Just because a battery is brand new it would be wise to check its voltage of it, as the S- type is very particular about its voltages to work properly.
-
Agree with Peter...slow warm up!

Hi Gary,
I think you are non DPF,purely because 2005 was the change over point between emission standards from euro 3 to euro 4 which required a DPF to meet the reduced hydrocarbon and soot output of the vehicles.....AND remember car manufacturers rarely add componants where cost is involved unless it is required!
-
Maybe a good idea to do a compression test?
-
Hi Peter,
I think the uprated cubic capacity from 2.7-litres to 3-litre had something to do with meeting the later emission standards and re-mapping of the new engines characteristics....
-
Peter,
It may be helpful to look up the history of the 2.7diesel engine because ,as you are probably aware,it was a joint effort between companies...
-
Hi Peter,
Yes DPFs are fitted now to meet euro5 emission legislation (we are about to enter euro6...) but back in 2005 we were just moving forward from euro3 onto euro4.......
-
Ok Peter,
How do you know for sure though?
Have you been under a 2005 vehicle to confirm?
-
Hi
Am i right in thinking that a 2005 diesel s-type does not have a DPF if the chrome exhaust ends are turned down to the road?
-
Hi
Just joined, hopefully learn from you guys after my introduction to Jaguar after buying an s-type ;-)
S type auto gearbox problem.

Always worth disconnecting the battery and clamping the positive and negative leads together to reset any stored energy ie diodes etc.....not a guaranteed cure but these cars are curiously not battery friendly voltage wise.
