Yes, very true if it needs that. I've had my battery disconnected for a day on a 2009 XF though and had no problems at all.

2009 models aren't affected.  It's only those of us with X250 Facelift models that have to worry. About 2011 to 2015.

Also there are settings savers that feed a low voltage current via the OBD11 socket that may prevent the problem.  Apparently the modules only need around 3-4 volts to retain their settings.

    Another update...

I couldn't easily get the vehicle to a suitable garage due to my location and distance required to drive so I got myself a Mongoose OBD cable and SDD software and after much hair pulling I managed to get some success...

It appears that my fault is down to the dual battery fuse box (part number - CX23-14K131-BC)

It's easy enought to get to and replace, I just have to find one now...

If anyone has one hanging around in their shed/kitchen draw/man cave then please give me a shout..

Jimbo64  could you tell us where you sourced your Mongoose OBD Cable & SDD software perhaps with relevant links?

Have you fixed your problem yet?

    Best regards

    Hi Mervyn,

I am based in New Zealand and i don’t know which specialist to go who can fix this with autologic equipment??

I have been to Jaguar dealer and they told me central junction box and auxillary box have failed and need replacement which is worth $5500 NZ dollar which is too much i think.

    Thanks

    Cheers,

    Harman

Ouch!! That's a big hit!! Do you have any Jaguar independent specialists in NZ? If so, I suggest that you try asking them if they use the Autologic Diagnostic equipment.  If they do they should be able to help you.  Also you could try contacting Autologic to see if anyone local to you subscribes to their service. They were very helpful to me here in the UK This is their Aus link.  https://au.autologic.com/  Hope you get it sorted.

    Hi,

My mechanic changed the A.C compressor in my Jaguar xf (2015- Diesel). When he finished with putting the new a.c compressor, then after that my car’s central locking system stopped working.

Harman, this is definitely exactly the problem that I have described above.  It only affects x250 Facelift XF modelS.  Jaguar are aware of it but refuse to take any responsibility for it.  You have 2 options, either a Jaguar main dealer with a bill of around £1500 or a Jaguar specialist who has the Autologic equipment with a bill of under £100.

    Hope you get is fixed

    Best regards

    Steve,

In my experience, leaving the small battery connected does not help with saving your central locking. It can, of course, be reprogrammed in a few minutes by a garage with the Autologic software, thereby saving the replacement of the 2 units and many hundreds of £££££"£

  6. There is now plenty of information available about the total loss of central locking facilities after the main battery is disconnected for any reason.  It seems this affects X250 Facelift XF models.  Below is a copy of my post on a Facebook site following my personal experiences.  It seems Jaguar are refusing to take ownership of this software fault and are charging a fortune to replace components that should be done FOC.  If you have this problem and take your car to a Jaguar dealership, be prepared for a large bill.  Contact one of the companies in my post and the problem will be solved at a reasonable cost and in minutes.

A job on the car last week needed the battery disconnecting for the duration. It was reconnected about 30 hours later. All of my central locking function was gone. Pressing the lock button on the remote or any door handle button gave an immediate 2 beep fault.. The interior lock & unlock buttons did't work either. Forum & social media research showed this to be a fairly common problem following a battery disconnection. A problem that Jaguar dealer workshops seem to be oblivious of. There are several instances where dealers have had cars several days and ended up replacing modules at big cost to owners.

It transpires that an Autologic diagnostic tool can fix the problem in 10 minutes. Most Jaguar workshops & many independents apparently don't have this kit.

For the information of all unlucky enough to suffer this problem I have found 2 places that have the kit, know of the problem and have fixed many cars.

I went to MDM in Coalville yesterday,176 mile round trip. They connected up their machine and the problem was was solved in a 10 minutes and a few button presses. They charged me £50. Bargain.

I understand from other posts that E & E charge £90. A bit cheeky, but fixes the problem.

Talking to the technician yesterday they don't know why this happens, what makes it happen or how to stop it happening. They think that the less time the battery is off the less likely it is to happen.

I hope this info helps anyone in a similar position.

(This has nothing to do with the other well known problem of failing door lock mechanisms.)

I honestly can't remember as they also sprayed and supplied a lock cover for me. Give them a call and explain the problem - they are familiar with it now so should be able to give a rough idea of cost.

Booked in for tomorrow. Quoted me £50 as long as no problems, so I'm happy.  I never mind an excuse for a 2 hour trip in the XF 🙂 🙂

    Hi.

I wanted to add to this thread as I encountered the same problem after a local garage installed a new battery for me. Without all the detail, their Autel system wouldn't reprogram so I went to another placewith the JLR software which also didn't work... I then came across this thread and booked in with a garage who use the Autogic software. 10 minute and on my way, all done. They're an indy Jag specialist.

No affiliation at all to said garage but they were fantastic - fitted me in without an appointment and were well priced.

How much do MDM Services charge for this reset of the central locking?

I am going to attempt a repair using fibreglass on the split joint and a wire wrapping! if I can get at it easy!

Hi did you manage to fix this?  If so how?
I have mine off the car and was thinking of sealing with silicone and holding together with self tapping screws!!!
It would be easier if it had come off completely, but the bottom is stuck fast!!
