  1. Afternoon all,

I've just purchased a really nice X-type 2.0 S diesel saloon on a '55' plate and am loving it.  Four days ago I surprised myself and managed to pair my iPhone 4S with the car and actually made some calls.  I think I read that each time I got back in the car with my phone it would pair automatically ... but no!  Two days later I get in and there's no pairing and when pressing the phone icon hoping to get 'SIG' message the display shows 'NO PHONE' and despite all attempts in my travels since the display refuses to change from 'NO PHONE'.  Meanwhile my iPhone is all set and wants to pair with the car again but cannot due to no 'SIG' display.  Incidentally this is not touch screen.

Last night I drove the car in the dark for the first time and it was evident that the lower screen (clock/phone display) was noticeably dimmer than the top screen, so much so that the content was difficult to read even when adjusted to full brightness.  I wonder if these two issues could be connected?

I shall be returning to the nice Independent Dealer who sold the car to me but in the interim went to my nearest Main Dealer to ask advice.  All they suggested was that I disconnect the battery for 20 minutes 'in the hope' that this resets the car's software and solves the problem.  Needless to say I've not done this as it's going to be down to the seller Dealer to sort out.

Over to you kind people.  Any ideas?

    Rowley

im the opposite  , my phone  connects every time i get in , im a taxi driver so don't want people listening in , handy when my bluetooth is dead though ;-)

  2. I had the cat up in the air yesterday to give it a oil service and noticed the intercooler is still leaking on the drivers side end... I no it isn't the hose leaking as ive had this off about 5 times and replaced with a new clip , plus its dry. but the join between the end cap and the core is wet. (black sludge , oil ) .. can this intercoolers be repaired or is it best to replace?   plus this would answer my low mpg. 43mpg on 100 mile round trip cruising at 70mph 90% of the journey..

    i wish

  3. Sorry I'm a little late in replying to you but I have driven 22036miles since Dec13 and used 496.83 gallons of diesel so returning a average 44.35mpg.

    Xtype 2.0 diesel.

    John

im doing something wrong then

  4. just to add my two pence worth

i go from reading to oxford every day then return in rush hour traffic a round  trip of 70 + miles each trip from a cold engine, and the 2.0 diesel in doing about 44- 50 mpg  daily so cant gru

grumble at that at all tbh

    Ron

mines showing 27 mpg around the doors

  5. ON THE FENCE WITH THIS ONE

there is a lot of owners  for & against this blanking plate for the egr so it'S down to the owner to make their own mind up TBH, Im 75% for it but just need that extra nudge but as ive had no problems with MINE  yet ?? ( touch wood )  i will stick with it until it,  if/starts playing up then i might take the plunge

    Ron

same here, just wondered that's all, like i say mine is a taxi so prevention is better than the cure ;)

  6. Good question, Gary.

What I think you ought to try is the Radio presets.  This will enable your first choices. Look at page 12 on the quick start manual.

What I do is let the whole lot come up and pick the one I want.  Jaguars want you to see everything they can find!

    Regards,

    Peter.

cheers mate, i have moved the ones i use so they are in the first row, still loads , just looks cluttered ;-)

  7. so not using the car this weekend, checked how much fuel was in with the distance left to run, it read 96 miles, so thought i would pop a tenner in , fuel gauge pointer  moved, but i still had the same distance left on the dash , is a tenner not enough to trigger it or something ? also its still reading 33.9 mpg  & average speed 16 mph , although i flogged it up & down the local duel carriageway for the emissions before its taxi test, im confused

  8. Hi Gary

This is how my locking system works====

From all doors locked when parked.

    The fob.

1 press on the unlock button and the drivers door unlocks .

2nd press the passenger door unlocks

3rd press and all doors + boot unlock.

Boot can be unlocked on its own with the bottom right hand button.

when everyones in and you drive away at about 5 mph all doors lock on there own

to stop any one getting in.

When you stop the drivers and pasengers door will open from the inside once they

have been opened the other doors and boot can be opened.

When parked -to lock all doors+ boot - press red button -Top Left once .

If you press something wrong the alarm will go off   if you do get the key in the ignition

as soon as possible to stop it > ??? :D :D

    Frank

thanks for the reply mate, its going in stradstones on monday to get that auto -locking  removed ;-)

  9. well, got her home , drives like a dream, one problem though , when we parked up the central locking didn't seem to work , i opened the car with the fob, ( all doors opened) we jumped in drove home & the doors locked by themselves, ( i thought i had just knocked the lever to lock or something ), when we got home , we tried the door handles to open  but they were locked, so i took the fob out , pressed open , they sounded like they opened but were still locked, is there a sequence or something to lock/unlock these cars ? would appreciate a answer asap if poss, its getting tested for a taxi soon & will be no good if the punters cant get out

  10. I think there are those who have changed headlights on the S Type, Gary, and they appear to be quite easy.

I know little about the X Type, though.

    Peter.

thanks for the reply mate , it went" !Removed! up" so now collecting it tomorrow evening ( bloke works away & had to stay a while longer ) one thing i didn't check , might sound silly but does anyone know if this model has a rear courtesy light ? ( please say yes !!)

  11. Well there's a lot of x type's to choose from 2-5/3-0 litre petrol all wheel drive ,2-0 2-2 litre diesel (saloon/estate) models (s )basic (se) (sport) (sport premium) (Top of the range Sovereign). I'm on my third x type (2005 2-0 litre diesel se only problem was a split turbo hose, )( 2008 basic model S 2-2 litre diesel 6 Speed Auto no problem' s, sold it as was hoping to purchase an XE Demo Car and they would be Rear Wheel Drive and being without a car for 6 weeks went and bought a x type 2-2 diesel Auto (Sovereign ) after driving ( Mondeo, Focus, BMW 118 ,A4 )decided on another x type 2009 Model. The only thing to look out for is some Models are not properly

Advertised saying it's a (Sovereign model which has coloured piping on the Seats when it is actually an SE Model ) .

Early models had problems with sills rusting which can easily be welded , Transfer box on all wheel drive models is a weak point I'm led

to believe.I prefer the 2-2litre with the Auto Gearbox with Touring Suspension the only thing with this is it has a Diesel Particulate Filter which doesn't like a lot of short journeys, but all new Diesels have them now.

If I was you I would test drive a few and check out what service has been done , I'm very satisfied with mine.

    Regards

    Tom

thats why i said x types mate

  12. You can get AM on the radio mate I have Talksport on all the time too. Looks a lovely car mate in good condition, enjoy!

not the best quality though is it , i hope i will enjoy it anyway ( something nice to drive about when off work, or sitting about in while at work   ) anyone took a headlight to bits ? fancy these & dont know if it will be a big job

its a x type 2.0D SE, got  74 ,500 on the clock as you can see , 8 stamps in the book & mint condition, its going on as a taxi, drives excellent , 56 plate , 12 months mot , ( although thats not a issue realy, i will have to pay £280 for a council mot ) , full leather & all the bells & whistles  , cant wait to collect it , (1st  jag , no option when signing up for none chose f type, changed now ;-) ) looking for some cheap temp insurance ( about 5 days ) so i can drive it while im waiting for my taxi test, just hope the boot space is ok, its deep, not high though , its a realy nice, tidy   motor, one thing i was wondering has anyone fitted a DAB transmitter or radio? i only listen to talk sport & 5 live & thay are on AM  sadly

  14. Hi Gary, and welcome to the club.

Just to echo what Rich has said, members share their experiences, and questions usually have an answer with a factual experience from various models of Jaguars.

    Regards,

    Peter.

    they dont
