    Hi Tom,

Has your XF got the 2.7 diesel engine, which is the same as used in the S Type?

In four and a half years I have not had a problem, and I only do about 6,000 miles a year in the Jaguar, with mostly relatively short runs. The DPF is designed to  filter out the particles of, to put it plainly, "muck" that comes out of the exhaust.  I was advised  years ago to use to use the best quality fuel [I use Shell V power] as Diesel fuel is less refined than petrol.  The principle being that if you put nasty stuff in you get nasty stuff out,  I also use a DPF cleaning additive every now and then.

Let us know you you get on.

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

    Yes, the same engine.

I'm just back from the clean and they said they couldn't regen as it needs a new EGR valve (£800). yikes! don't know what to do...

  2. This DPF thing has totally ruined my experience of an otherwise lovely car. I used to take bi-weekly 40 mile trips on motorway which whilst inconvenient was palatable. Now this trip - and longer ones - have not solved the problem. I've now boked the car in for a professional DPF clean but been told this might not fix the problem. Anyone had one of these? Do they tend to work?

  3. I really appreciate all the replies guys. Very helpful.Firstly I would say that I probably don't drive very economically, in fact I stick it in S mode most days and stick my foot down in short bursts.

I will start by switching to optimax and regularly adding additive and let you know how I get on!

    Cheers

  4. Many Thanks for your reply. Luckily my problem isn't that serious. It just thinks that doors aren't closed when they are. As soon as temp got over freezing today it was ok. Surely a Jaguar should be able to function in below freezing conditions. Already nervous about opening doors tomorrow

  5. My XF wont lock as it says that the rear left door is open. It's not its closed perfectly well. I tried the key to manually lock the car but it only locked the passenger side door.

I've cleaned and defrosted the lock area but no joy. In the ridiculous situation now where I can't leave it out of my sight and also I can't go out.

    Any ideas?

In the reservoir, Tom or on the jets?

The one on my s type reservoir was easily available.

    Peter.

In the reservoir Peter. Might just buy a generic plastic cap and try it as they are cheap. Cheers

I purchased the COMMA diesel injector and emission cleaner from Halfrauds. There were more expensive ones but that poured into a tank of diesel with a blast seemed to do the trick. Stopped my engine management coming on, like yourself I got fed up with it resetting the fault code every five minutes.

I've just ordered some. Many Thanks

  8. Now that I don't do regular long runs, this DPF notification comes on regularly and I have to 'nip' up the M1 for 15 miles and back just to get rid of it. It's intensely annoying me now. So much in fact that I'm considering getting rid of the car and maybe getting a 4.2 petrol version...

  9. Have tried this a few times as well but with no success:

    1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch

    2. Turn ignition on without applying the foot brake.

    3. Release the rear fog lamp switch.

    4. Press and hold the trip button

    5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch.

    6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.

    7. The message centre should display "resetting service mode" and then
    "service mode reset"

    8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switch and turn the ignition off.

All of this needs to be completed within 3 seconds!

This topic has been aired before, but as the SERVICE REQUIRED IN 1650 MILES came on this morning, I thought it might be useful to repeat it.

    1. With ignition key in the OFF position, press down the CLEAR/RESET button. [Trip Computer]

    2. Turn on ignition and release the CLEAR/RESET button.

    3. Press down and hold down Trip button on left stalk and press down CLEAR/RESET button.

4 . Continue to hold down both buttons  and the message SERVICE MODE RESET  should appear after about 10 seconds when the reset is complete.

If you have been fast enough  --  3 seconds to do 1, 2, and 3. that is job done.  If it doesn't, try again.  I do it every year or more and Have only got it done once first time.

If you go to a dealer and ask him to clear it, he might do it for nothing, or he might blind you with science about needing to plug it in to the Jaguar Diagnostic system, get you a free cup of coffee, keep the car for 25 minutes and charge you £70.

XF doesn't have a CLEAR/RESET button so it doesn't work unfortunately

    Hi Peter,

I need to get rid of similar message on my XF, do you know if that is possible? Thanks

    Afternoon Gentlemen and Ladies,

A friend of mine is organising a series of small books on brands where design has been and continues to be very important.  Brands such as Gucci, Chanel and Apple are in progress.  These books are being written for students studying design.  The Jaguar book is partly written but he has not been able to find a Jaguar enthusiast to finish it.  If you can help please reply here and I will put you in touch with him.

    Many Thanks for your time,

    Tom

    Hi guys,

I have had my XF for over 4 years and the tyre pressure warning indication came on pretty much when I got the car. On another forum I was advised to let all of the tyres down to around 2 bar so that all of the tyres indicated low pressure. When you have done this, start the engine and inflate the tyres to their normal pressure. This works but after a few weeks the false indication starts to reappear and you have to go over the process again. Does anyone know of a permanent fix?

    Cheers,

    Rob

That really does sound like you have a faulty indicator.

Mine has not come on for a month now, fingers crossed its sorted itself out.

My wife's iPhone 6 goes perfectly with the XF but my iPhone 5, although seen by Bluetooth will only give the first ring and then no sound at all for conversation.

Only way I can use myne in the car is to turn off bluetooth on the phone and stop then talk using the phone only. annoying.

I'm afraid my only advice here is to upgrade to an iPhone 6. Some good deals for them around now!
