  1. Hi. Had same problem with my S type. The battery was low in charge, a new one sorted problem. To test put your battery on charge then try. If all is ok you need new battery. Because of the length of cable from the battery to starter motor there is quite a drop in power available, especially if the battery is showing its age. Don't waste your money on expensive dealer tests, if need be find a good local old fashioned garage with a decent sparky.

Hope this helps, and buy a heavy duty battery it helps a lot, and needn't cost the earth if you look around.

  2. I had problem with my alarm going off when I tried to start my car 18 months ago (3.0 petrol 2002 s type). Not quite same problem as yours but a battery check, and replacement sorted fault.

Jag dealer had all sorts of ideas but small local garage fixed and saved me a small fortune.

P.S. these cars seem to need a good battery, no cheap ones!!

  3. S type 3.0 petrol. 86000 miles.

I average about 24 mpg according to car readout. This is mostly stop start to work. Have seen 30mpg on a good run on good roads, and not going slow. Not too bad I dont think.

My car was also dealer serviced up to 74000, checked plugs when I had car and the original plugs still in there. Totally shot. Changed and ran a lot better.

Best to see bills as well as just stamps in service book!!
