Key Fob Problems X-type help
Yes, but all you need to do is change the back of the key. getting at that chip is a pita and will probably destroy the plastics of the new and old key.

Doors won't lock
Glad it's sorted. Spray the locks with some wd40 then with some white grease. It might stop it from reoccurring.

Only other thing I can think of is if the bonnet is open. Or you have a faulty door switch. Do you have the message center display?

Key Fob Problems X-type help
It sounds like you have a faulty fob. Try fingazfobz or get a second hand one off ebay. Any x type fob can be reprogramed to open and close your car. You can also program one fob to open and close multiple cars. I can open both our cars with one of our spare fobs.

Is the tail gate glass open?

Key Fob Problems X-type help
When doing the test did you have the door open? If that doesn't work try fingazfobz off the internet

R mean on the back of a X type
There isn't a production X type R. The r on the back of an S type, XJ or XK means they are fitted with a super charger. The R on the back of an X type means some ones stuck a badge on it.

Dreaded Tensioner And Pully Fault Has Arrived!
Just done the upgrade on the wife's car. Took about three an a half hours. Not an easy job. Any garage used to mk3 Mondeos will be able to do it in half the time. If I where you I would supply the parts. At least then you know you have the right parts fitted. BTW It was only the bottom pulley that needed changing on San's car but I changed all the parts as I'd bought them. If I had changed just the pulley it would have taken about an hour and a half.

Fault codes
It could be a fault connecter. I would check if any of the wiring looms are rubbing. Otherwise it sounds like a faulty EGR valve.

Fault codes
Sounds like a faulty EGR valve. Get it cleaned and check that the valve isn't sticking.

Bertieboy9 is based in Leads. Well worth traveling to if you can arrange the transport. PM him and if he is available and the timing is right. I don't mind traveling down to lend a hand.

There are people on here that can and are willing to help you fix it. Bertieboy9 is one such man. I believe his rates are extremely good. He also knows more about the x types than most mechanics. If it's the master cylinder he may have one at a reasonable price. BTW I'm not on commission lol

Seeking advice on key fob problem
Here you go 1 Open drivers door 2 Turn ignition switch to position 1 then to 2 four times. You will hear a chime. 3 Turn the ignition off and remove the key 4 Press a key on the key fob within ten seconds (unlock is a good one) You should hear a chime 5 If you want any other key fobs programmed just press a button and listen for the chime. Max of four can be programmed. 6 Close the door 7 Check to see if it has worked.

X-type estate.
I've had both diesel and petrol x types. I would say at 10000 miles you could take your pick of either fuels. If you go for the petrol, go for the 3.0. It's more fun and is more economical than the 2.5 or 2.1. If you go for the diesel, go for the 2.2. From experience the diesels are a little more prone to problems. i.e. egr faults, turbo actuator problems, map sensor issues etc. If your willing to get your hand dirty they can all be sorted relatively cheaply. Waist seals on the windows are renowned for corrosion and on the estates cost about £160 to £200 for a set so look out for them when you go viewing. The top of the range sovereign has all the toys. Closely followed by the sports premium then the se, sport then classic. Hope this helps

retrofit servotronic/electric assist steering
According to the wiring diagram it's a blue and a red wire. Connection IP11 pin 23 blue Connection IP11 pin 25 red IP11 is on the left hand side of the instrument cluster when looking from the back Will try to up load a diagram The wiring diagram is from an 04 but the pin outs look the same. I'll do a bit more digging.

retrofit servotronic/electric assist steering
Looking at the wiring diagram it's just two wires from the back of the instrument cluster to the servo.
