Gaskets when changing V6 2.7 ltr belts?
At just over 10 years the first Spring job will have to be the front and rear belts. The Workshop manual suggests binning the many gaskets involved but finding replacements seems difficult, OK for the front LH and RH but not the lower gasket, not the rears. Does anyone have a view as to whether these are generally replaced by Dealers or are they cleaned up and reused?

Keeping the Cat purring or polishing a shiny new Kitchen...no contest really. Thank goodness for understanding wives. Good luck with the rebuild. Barry

S-Type belts changed at 10 years?
Hi Peter, Your point is well put. It would certainly be prudent to have them changed at ten years as suggested but common sense tells me that it should not be necessary for years yet. I do not expect to complete 77k miles for some considerable time, perhaps 5 years. Still, I have until Sept '17 to consider this I guess. best regards, Barry

S-Type belts changed at 10 years?
My S-Type 2.7 diesel seems to have been very well cared for during its 8+ years and low mileage of 38,000 but despite this, Jaguar Service Schedules demand a change to drive belts at 10 years. Can I safely stretch this out a bit I wonder. Has any other owner taken a more pragmatic approach on this?

Wheels
...and also on Midnight Black. I have never been a fan of low-profile tyre due to the expectation of a teeth-loosening rde. Not so the S-Type on 18" Tritons which is silky smooth.

Recommended independent garages
OK, now for a real challenge. My S-Type 2.7 SE is newly imported to Tarn et Garonne 82150 in France. It was last maintained by Preston Jaguar Centre but this is just too far to commute! If anyone has a recommendation in this area I would be both amazed and grateful. I am aware of the Continental Automobile Service, a Jaguar franchise in Villeneuve sur Lot but have no experience of them. Barry

Second time around
Peter, Good to hear from you and thanks for mentioning Straycat, he appears to be located very near to us in Tarn et Garonne. I was certainly pleasantly surprised at both the smoothness and quietness of this engine. I kept the speed down on the run through France and only opened it up exiting the Toll booths on hitting the Resume Cruise Control button, exhilarating! Your car looks very good in that dark blue metallic, have you owned it for long? best regards, Barry.

JAGUAR S TYPE IN FRANCE - ADVICE PLEASE
Hi Jim, Old Peter mentioned that you also are located in France. I have recently imported my 2.7 SE of 2007 manufacture. The euro-diesel engine being not so much of a problem for a mainstream garage to deal with but I too will be looking for an independent specialist in or around 82. I don't feel that RHD is much of a problem, mostly French drivers overtake me! I'm not yet on the road with this car, the Montauban Préfecture seems to be dealing with a backlog of around three-four weeks duration at present, maybe next week. How did you find the garage you dealt with in October? regards, Barry

Second time around
Hi, After emptying my wallet with a bright red XJS 3.6 in the early nineties I thought it was time to try again, this time in retirement, with an S-Type 2.7 diesel. I'm just going throught the somewhat lengthy process of registering a 2008 model "Midnight Black SE" in France, it's a right hand drive car with an almost immaculate exterior/interior. It drove over from the Uk without a hitch, what a great motor this Euro-diesel is too. On closer inspection I did find that it had collected dents in both rear rims due perhaps to hitting a curb in reverse but who knows. Maybe I'll get them strraightened in due course but to hasten getting it running I dug deep and put two replacements on. Otherwise I'm ready to go, the Prefecture willing that is. It seems that they are dealing with a backlog at present, here's hoping for next week. Anyway that's enough from me, time I took a look at the Forum and what's going on out there. :) Barry
