    Dear fellow Jaguar owners,
It's been a while since I last posted.
Hope you have all been enjoying driving your lovely cars.
Been busy fair to say. I can't belive it's been two years since I acquired my beloved 'black cat'.
    But also been suffering. Sadly.
All this time, to date, I have had and continue to have a brake squeak.

    I maybe mentioned here.

    Anyway, to summarise -
    - tried using Jaguar Lancaster -  they had at least four efforts and changed pads and discs.
    - after a year with JL having failed to cure the problem, I suggested if they would be agreeable to letting me try a brake specialist. They agreed. The brake specialist spoke to JL and said they will  try out a non-Jag brake pad which they said is softer off market item. JL said go for it. This place tried another at least four times. First brakes then discs (that had much life left in them). In the end they failed and said they had no other ideas.
In all I have now spent in the region of £1k±
Brakes still squeak so much my ears bleed.

There is no rhyme or reason, high speed or low speed. I am a very careful driver.

    At wits end.

Love the car - which is perfect in all other respect.

ANY advice, suggestions or referrals would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Amal , i had a slight brake squeal when i bought my car . On closer inspection all the brake calipers were looking rusty and tired so i had them all refurbished and painted gloss black by BIGG RED brake caliper specialists . They cost around £320 for all four, and came back like brand new , no problems since .

Hi Amal , that doesn't sound to bad for a V8 to me , about 25 mpg . I get 30 mpg out of my V6  3.0 X-type on the motorway at a steady 70 mph with cruise control on .

Just realised this is a old post lol

  3. I am currently paying £335 through 1st Central for my 3.0 X-type  , but every year my renewal comes in at a silly price so have to have a shop round every year . Last year RAC were the cheapest at £340 and on renewal they were asking for £750 !!! no accidents points etc , so where do they pull these prices from ??

  4. Great cars but hard to get rid of this day and age . To own a older Jaguar in my opinion you are probably a " car enthusiast " so the target buyers are narrowed down immensely . The average joe is looking for a economical cheap road tax / low insurance car to run . I think you have got to just be lucky and have the right person looking at the right time in the right area , as some people just don't like travelling very far to look at a vehicle . Your car looks fantastic with a great colour , good mileage , nice 2.5 engine and seems very well looked after . It has a lot going for it so i hope you get a good fair price for it

    Regards ,

    Andy .

  5. As Steve says , don't be put off used cars . My X-Type had numerous problems ( nothing major ) and i have gradually worked through everything and as my car is my hobby i have spent a couple of grand getting the car just as i want it , new wheels , hydro dipped carbon dash , refurbed calipers ( £300 ) , mesh grille top and bottom , all front bulbs upgraded , you get the picture . The car is 99% how i want it , it looks great , drives fantastic and always puts a smile on my face . Money well spent in my eyes . I will probably be fed up when i have nothing more to do to it lol

  6. I have e-mailed two or three car key specialists regarding a replacement / spare key and haven't heard back from one single one of them . Same as a firm i messaged for a price for a auto gearbox Oil change ...........same again , no reply . Some of these company's are either ignorant , don't want your business or both . Iv'e given up for now lol . :wallbash:

the easiest and probably the cheapest way to get bluetooth in your car is just to replace the stereo with a modern one. There are fascia kits available which allow you to put either a single or double din unit in in place of the Jag unit.

Retro fitting the Jag touch screen is an awful lot of work and as the CAN Bus cables probably aren't fitted to your car would be pretty expensive. After all that faff you end up with a satnav unit that is already 4 years out of date and won't be getting any new map updates.

I have exactly the same setup as you except that I don't have the autochanger. I deliberately bought the car without the touch screen satnav because I knew I wanted to replace the stereo. I got a nice Sony unit fitted which gives me not only bluetooth but also DAB and the ability to play music from a USB stick. Cost me around £150 including the fascia kit and required cables including a DAB ariel.

I am thinking about doing the same Colin , any chance of putting a photo up to see what it looks like ?

    Cheers , Andy

  8. I believe ( correct me if i'm wrong ) the ABS light must be working properly to pass a MOT and EML is not a MOT failure . I had the same kind of problem with mine when i bought it EML light not working at all . I had the cluster apart as far as i dare go and am no nearer finding out what the problem is . There are no codes showing and the car runs spot on so i am not that concerned about it . I would certainly try getting my money back as someone has clearly been trying to hide something .

    Regards ,

    Andy .

  9. Every year i shop around and end up changing insurers . Last year RAC were cheapest , but on renewal they more than DOUBLED what they wanted the year before . How can this happen when nothing has changed , no accidents , points etc ? Back with 1st Central now at £335 fully comp for 3.0 L X-type who were cheapest the year before RAC and then did the same thing by nearly doubling the renewal price . Why don't these company's just look after their existing customers instead of the new ones ? Probably just hoping people auto renew and not shop around . Personally i think people are a bit more wiser these days and fifteen minutes on the net can save you a fortune . :yahoo:

  10. Hi  Walter , as you say the oe bulbs are very poor indeed . I have Phillips Diamond vision in mine , which are considerably better and have a more modern white look . There are plenty to choose from at various prices on e-bay , also Halfords sell brighter bulbs which should be the H1 fitting .

    Cheers ,

    Andy.

  11. I had lots of small problems with my x - type when i bought it , most of them were sorted out for a few pounds . Stick with it as it hopefully will be worth it in the end . Mine is just about where i want it now and i'm glad i kept it and has been worth every penny spent . It is really disheartening to buy a car and find it has problems but most of your problems can be sorted quite easily . Plenty of cheap spares on e-bay .

    Cheers ,

    Andy .
