It's really just the one contact that poses the problem, the one you can see above the battery when it's in place. Gently bend it in towards the battery, whilst you have the battery out of the slot, to move it to give a firmer contact. Also rub some emery paper across the inside face - gently - to aid the contact. Also, be sure to purchase quality battery replacements from a reputable source. The CR2032 bought from online sources can be duds. N6 JMX

First thing i would do is pull and refit all the light fuses for the lights concerned. Over time, corrosion builds on the fuse blades, pulling them out and refitting cleans them. If the problem comes back, renew the fuses. If it still comes back, put another post up as it will be something deeper.

The lights on my xf keep going out. there is a set time before they go out as if the timer is stuck on, the position on the stork is on auto or lights on it’s a nightmare when driving any ideas for remedy

Have you checked the CPS (Crank Position Sensor)? They have a habit of going with no warning, no spark and Jaguar want a small fortune for them. However you can get them on ebay for ~£15, i did for my S Type 3.0 which uses the same as most petrol V8s/V6s, the Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln LS of similar years. They're a bit of a faff to change but a relatively cheap and easy fix, best approached from underneath so a good jack and axle stands are needed.

I'm assuming when you say "bearing" you actually mean the plastic bushes in the linkage? If so, try this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146139281240 I bought a similar kit for my Honda CR-V some 2-3 years ago and it's working as well now as it did when i fitted it after a similar game to yours of replacing the entire linkage and motor assembly only to find it came from a Japanese (instead of Swindon like mine) built CR-V so had some wiring problems. Glad you mentioned this as mine is starting to wear on my '99 S Type so i had to search for the part you need and the part i need! With absolutely no sarcasm intended, thanks for having this problem! It's what the forum is all about - one person has a problem without an immediate solution but someone, somewhere has and has the easy solution.

Hi, I wonder whether anyone can help with this.. I need new linkages for my wiper motor as the bearings (on what was a replacement part) are worn out. I can't see that just the linkages can be found anywhere on eBay without the motor, so presume I will need to get another full kit. But the question is whether what Trico describe as a "2R83-17500-BA" is the same as a "1R83-17500-BA" (or "1R83-17500-BC" or "2R83-17500-BB etc.)?!

Many thanks for the suggestion but doing this is beyond my own skill level! I will let a Jaguar mechanic have a go. Dennis G

That sounds like you may have a dodgy height sensor (one on each corner) and it's ok until it warms up and then breaks the connection. You might fix it by unplugging all the sensors and spraying the plugs connector pins with contact cleaner then reconnecting/disconnecting several times and a last spray of contact cleaner before reconnecting the last time. This by its very nature will be a temporary fix and the problem is likely to come back if it effects a fix to start with. However it might confirm that's where the fault lies.
-
Turns out that I have pretty much the same problem with both of my fobs; one worse than the other. Almost surely to do with the contacts, however I have not a clue about how to do anything to clean/fix them. Has anyone ever managed to solve this?

Good evening. I have recently acquired a 2003 XJ6 and have a strange warning light issue relating to the air suspension. After the car has been driven for about an hour, the warning light comes on saying there is a fault with the air suspension. If the car is parked for an hour or more, the warning light does not show when the engine is started again but then, as above, returns after an hour or so! Very curious. As a layman, I would have thought the light would be permanently on if there is an actual fault. Has anybody had a similar issue? Thanks Dennis G

Jaguar xk150

Hi Colin, you indicate your problem is with the X-150 model, but your profile descripting infers you have the X-100 model from 2001, need to clarify which model you have the issue with. Before you changed the battery, did you have any need to jump start the car? If yes, then you may have fried the video screen that is the display in the X-150 model. N6 JMX- 1 reply

Hi, I am shortly having to change Alternator on 2.2 X type Diesel 2005. Looks as if AC pump etc will have to be removed to get at alternator top bolts. My AC does not work ( pulley clutch broke when I bought it) but that had been no bother and I have no need for AC. Anyobe taken it off completely ? Then obviously needs a shorter axillary belt - anyone done this and if so what belt did theu find to fit ?
-
It started as a very subtle flickering of the dash lights. It now pulses the headlights and the engine revs match the throb, could even be a very slight misfire. I fitted a new correct spec yuasa battery in march - all mains connections appear ok.

Hi Thanks for your response. I have had the same issue with either of my keys and I have replaced the batteries in both. I had a new drivers door latch fitted as well as tgd new boot latch. One garage told me it was the gear selector unit, so that was replaced and the problem still exists. It is with an auto electrician at the moment but it starts every time he tries, so no fault appears on the diagnostic……. Soul destroying !

Check the internal contacts are properly connecting within the key fob, they are a bit fragile and easily bent away from the contact face. N6 JMX

Hi John, there are a number of specialist suppliers who can advise you on possible solutions for your X-type. Need to be careful with what you eventually go with as some bulb conversions can end up as MoT failures. Talk to the good folks at "Better Car Lighting". Website at: www.bettercarlighting.co.uk Other companies are available. N6 JMX

Hi Andrew, welcome to the Forum, hope it all goes well for you. In future, you may want to post your questions in the correct area of the Forum. This post is in the X-type area and you want to be posting future requests on the 1999 XK8 in the X-100 section, a bit higher up the page. N6 JMX
