I had a stone thrown up from the car in front and it went straight through my fog light lens - great!!!

I'm looking at buying a used unit from a "well known online auction site", but can anybody tell me if they are handed or interchangeable, and are they easy to change over?  Finally (honest) does anybody have any thoughts on those with the 100W bulbs - are they even legal?

Thanks again,

Hi Mac

I bought a used one on the Web and aiming to Fit it today after i've finished a disc/pad replacement and bleed. Having trouble with fully winding the last n/s/r piston back.

I'll update you on fog light assembly ease of fitment once it's done. Not sure about the 100w bulbs though.

Hi Mac

Changing the light fitting over is fairly straightforward providing you can get the cover that attaches to the bottom of the bumper off or at least remove enough of the bolts to gain access to the back of the foglight. Unfortunately they tend to get rusted up because of the location so it's worth giving them a few doses of Plusgas prior to removal which will hopefully make removal easier.

The light fitting is held in with four small bolts and there is a plug connector which is straightforward to remove. One word of caution when buying a replacement unit- the early X types had a different plug connector to the later models such as yours. If I remember correctly JLR changed the connector around MY2004 so you need to be looking for examples from models 2004 onwards.

Not sure about fitting 100w bulbs whether it might blow the fuse fitted. I know a few people have fitted HID H11 set ups which are a lot brighter than the standard set ups. I've fitted LED units to mine and these double up as daytime running lights, they're not the brightest as fog lamps but in all honesty I can't remember the last time that I used front fogs, so preferred the more useful DRL's.

Hope this helps.
