EML Engine reduced performance mode

Featured Replies

my EML light came on today on my s type v6 3.0 auto petrol with that I had reduced performance I left car for while when next used it hour later it was showing no faults and performance was normal then 5 mins later it happened again! Called the AA his reader showed it was misfiring on cylinders 1, 4, 5 ! Idle was rough too! Left it while again then no faults drove around the block no problems. Then again it happened again! AA seemed to think it might be the coils I some what agree but 3 coils to play up seemed bit weird to me. Any help please.

Hi Paul

i too had a similar problem, the coil replacement on the one bank is fiddly but not too bad, on bank 2 its a bit of a faff due to removing the manifold, if you change them take one of the old ones off first and check the connections, i didn`t do this and was sent a two prong connection off e bay which was supposed to fit when I needed a four prong, got the money refunded but if this saves anyone the same agro then I  think i Iwill have done you a service, if you can get a cheap code reader  this can help pin point lots of these types of faults.

Welcome to the Club, Noel.

Good first post!

There is a Jaguar Owners Club meet at the Heritage Motor Museum [Gaydon] on the 19th September.  There are over 25 members attending mostly from the Midlands.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks guys for the advice. I took a coil off & yes mine is a 4 pin too! Can only find second hand ones on eBay , I think something like coils do need to be new ! I managed to find some on eurocar parts for £30 so not too bad! So ordered them!

Well I changed all the coils & spark plugs had a friend clear the codes for me! Went down the road Amber light & engine light came on again with restricted performance again. When got home it was all clear but did the same when I went out again!

I must add though I have no misfiring & engine seems to run & rev fine in neutral or park!! So at least the misfiring has cleared up but I am baffled as to why it's in restricted mode & my friend has gone to work with his meter so don't know what the codes are!

Any help would be so appreciated please.

Could it be an air leak then  upsetting the mixture? ideally you need your friends code reader to highlight what the P code is showing

The update ; after finally clearing the error codes & left car over night I took her out Sunday & she behaved great!

Took it easy wasn't heavy on the throttle - no Amber warning lights or restricted performance!!

Same again Monday! I've now ordered my own obd2 code reader just incase lol.
