hi all just noticed a slight humming noise when I accelerate hard in my Jaguar, it's a 2.5 v6 se auto on a 55 plate, it still changes gear very smoothly with no clunks or other strange noises just seems to hum, do you think it could do with a gearbox oil and filter change I havnt had the car very long roughly 2 months it does have full service history and it is on 105000 miles, any help would be much appreciated

Regards Chris

chris you could be right on all counts but an x-type owner should pop-up soon to give you advice, on the site  ther is an indie garage section recommended but members that maybe you can find one close to you, all the xtype guys is ither in their beds or waching telly

Hi Chris,

The ZF gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life, but many owners of cars with this gearbox have had the oil changed at around 75k.

I do not know what causes the humming noise, as it could be a minor vibration from somewhere.

Regards,

Peter.
