Summer tyres 4.2 SE

Featured Replies

Recently sold my R and replaced with 4.2 N/A SE.

Car came with 4 almost new Pirelli winter tyres fitted so I'm set for the coming winter months. I have also acquired a set of Jaguar 17" rims that I will get summer tyres fitted. Clearly, there is no urgency for these to be fitted at this time of the year but I will look out for some winter deals on summer tyres. Question is, what brand do others recommend taking into account the normal factors, i.e. performance/road noise and price.

Hi Gavin,

There was a recent survey on Tyres which indicated that Goodyear and Vredestein were the best on stopping in the wet, noise, and met with the EU requirements.  I fitted two on the front of my s type [18" wheels] for £250.  17' wheels will be cheaper, of course.

Also it is worth having a look at the survey which can be found on the Halfords site, where you type in your Reg number and they will give the tyre and price  plus the rating for stopping and noise plus the EU recommendations etc.

You should also consider the J Rating on a tyre which means that it was designed for Jaguars.

Having said that, Tyre are a very personal choice and if a driver has good experience of a certain tyre brand he is often loath to change to another make.

Regards,

Peter.
