jag x type limp mode

Featured Replies

hi guys,

I am new to the forum, and am looking at buying my first jag. Its a 2005 2.0 diesel x type.

Apparently it occasionally goes into limp mode, the glow plug light flashes, and kicks into limp mode. If you turn the car off, whilst rolling and restart it, it works ok, and also if you let it run for 5-10 minutes before driving, its fine.

As i am new to Jaguars, i am unsure if its an expensive job, and if the car is worth acquiring , or letting it pass me up, and look for another one.

It has recently had one or two sensors replaced, including the maf sensor, but hasnt rectified the issue.

When it is idling, it also sounds a bit loud,as if the exhaust is blowing, but it is fine. Again, is this normal for this car?

Can anyone please advise asap as i am going to see the car tomorrow.

Hi Shaun. Had a similar problem with my 2008 X type. Replaced egr valve and it was ok for a couple of weeks then started the same problem again. Replaced turbo on advice from Independent Jag garage and it has been ok since. As you say it was expensive but I had it done under warranty. Good luck

Cheers

how would i stand re the warranty on an 05 plate mate? and seeing as i am buying it on a private sale, is the warranty transferable?

it is a really nice car, and is more practical than what we currently have, but we dont have any spare cash to throw at getting it running properly.

Hi Shaun,

Warranties are funny things, and I would guess that on a private sale you will be buying the car "as seen".

I think that you can buy a fuel system cleaning additive which might cure the rather tardy glow plug warm up.

My son has an X type with the 2.0 litre Diesel engine and it does sound a bit like a tractor when idling, but this engine is a well tried and tested [Ford Duratorq] add I have seen cars with this engine pass 200k miles.

Should you buy the car there is a system called Terraclean which costs about £120 which cleans the fuel system.  Maybe the seller would get it done for you?

Regards,

Peter.
