2.0d - bit of advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New owner of a white 2.0d estate, extremely happy with the car however there are a few niggles that i'd like to get sorted sooner rather than later. Any advice would be appreciated!

There is a knocking sound coming from the rear when I go over bumps, certain it's going to be a drop link or bush. Which tend to wear out quickest/ Any idea which I should look at changing?

I get an intermittent graunching noise from the steering rack when cold, but this goes within a few seconds. Not sure if this is an 'X-type' thing, or if i've got a steering rack on the way out.

Theres a couple of other little things but I can't think of them right now.

Many thanks!

Sam.

Welcome to the club, Sam.

My son has a similar car - Zircon Blue on an 06 plate.

He had the same noise combining from the steering rack which was cured by topping up the Fluid.  It could be that the fluid is expanding as it gets warmer.  It is worth trying as the cheapest option.

Clunking from the rear end ? - you are probably on the right track, but  x type owners will help.

Regards,

Peter.

Cheers Peter,

I'll try the fluid option before I do anything else. I checked the fluid level yesterday.. i'm not sure if it was just me being thick but I couldn't see any 'min' or 'max' to tell me what the fluid level is supposed to be. Most odd! I'll try putting a bit more in anyway.

Hi Sam,

The screw cap of the fluid container has a dipstick with min and max markings.  Make sure you don't drip or get any fluid on your hands,  Rubber cloves and a paper towel are useful.

Peter.

I had the graunching noise regularly when first owning the car, It is a known glitch and Jaguar sell an an additive which reduced its frequency , still happens occasionally, usually after been stood for more than a few days. No steering problems in 2 1/2 years - Probably shouldn't have said that
