Hi all about to buy my first Jaguar a 1999 S-Type 3.0l V6.  It's covered 90'000 miles is there anything I should be aware off, anything to look out for.  It a ex wedding car and from what I can see from receipts and history it's been looked after any feedback good and bad appreciated. Thanks you Karl

Hi Karl

i suppose first thing is any rust? Around the sills / wheel arches, (good mileage by the way for a car of her age) any advisories on last mot? Any warning lights on dash board, auto or manual? Auto, does she, snatch when changing gears. Oil leaks, smokey? When she starts? Noises? Fsh ? And so on

Steve

Hi Karl

I would say sills, remove them covers and have a look, if there rust free, i would say the rest of the car is

If its been a wedding car it should be in good condition

check the boot after its been raining, or you wash the car, some s-type's the boot leak terrible above the rear lights

also follow all your brake lines, they rust terrible on the s-types, especially at rear in the most awkward places

cheers

Thanks all for your replies, car is rust free from what I can see owner was the one to make a point of showing me the sills this explains why, car has just had a full service and only advisory on last mot in December was chip in windscreen which has already been replaced I did look in the boot which don't look like it's ever been used and pull all the floor out to be greated with a brand new spare tyre, and after all the rain we have had this week just gone didn't feel any damp so I guess this is a good sign.   Will check under car when finally bought it at brake lines thanks for that tip.  Although it's not jaguar service history it has been maintained well with regular services.   Sounds promising then and thanks for the comments again Karl

Hi Karl.

I have bought the same car, age amd model, so will be interested to know how you have got on with it. I get mine tomorrow and it appears to be a good car. Bit of rust here and there but seems pretty good for 17 years old. All the bits, apart from the electric folding wing mirrors seem to work. I am sure the next few days may tell a different story after I have taken delivery of it and driven a few miles. It has covered 150k miles.

After having the car for a few days I have found a couple of things. The rear drivers side door won't lock and can I heck get the hang of the climate control. I had it set on auto the other day and went through a hand car wash. During the wash the car misted up inside so badly I couldn't see a thing. Am I doing something wrong?
