Hi,

I've had my X-type sovereign 3l for a month now and I'm really enjoying it.  It is far and a way the best car I've ever owned, my daily driver is a Merc Sprinter so all the leather/wood/luxury is a real treat.  I have cleaned the car more in the one month than I have the van in 6 years!

So far, I have had the headlamp squirter cover fall off, so I replaced it and the little cruciforms with new ones in polypropylene ones.  So that is sorted.  I had a flat tyre, fortunately on my driveway as the wheels were all stuck to the hubs but I've sorted that with WD40 and copper grease.  I also bought another alloy wheel on eBay to replace the spacesaver wheel and am yet to put a new tyre on it.  Plus new wheel nuts as several were u/s after removal.

One of the many good things on the car is the sound system, really enjoying the cd auto changer but looking to install a lead to an iPod.  Anyone know if that's possible, or who does it?

Cheers everyone

Hi Rick and welcome to the club,

The x type is a great car  --  I had a 2005 2.5 AWD  --- and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There is a means to get a connection to an iPod ,but we have a few electric experts who will give you the details.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Rick, welcome to THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB. Unfortunately you will always have the alloy wheels binding/sticking to the hub alloy and metal don't like each other. With all my cars Jags, Mercs etc I've always used the copperslip trick when placing the wheels back on. Although I am an electrical engineer I cannot assist you with the iPod lead fitment having not attempted it although if you do a topic search on the site I have read several members posts on how they achieved it, I cannot remember now. I changed my head unit to a head unit that accepts SD cards and plays mp3 but that is on the XKR don't know if its achievable on the X type.

Hi Rick and welcome,

in terms of connecting your iPhone/iPod, you have a couple of options in my opinion, you could look at a fixed installation with a Jaguar audio connectivity kit which usually sits in the centre arm rest and is hot wired into the existing stereo. This would involve dismantling the centre consol and removing your stereo facia to connect, not impossible, but a bit of work and the unit would cost upwards of £150 plus fitting.

option 2, a Bluetooth FM transmitter that plugs into your power outlet and provides a seamless connection to the stereo from your phone (I have one) they are very good, easy to install and provide CD quality, there are several types on the market and link below for the one I use at £19.00

Give me a shout if you need to know more.

good luck

Andrew

Ricko, go to gromaudio.co.uk.  When my 6 CD changer broke on my Lexus RX , I threw that away and replaced it with the Grom box.  And it was brilliant.  For about £120 or so you get all the modern connections you could possibly want.  You need to be able to use a screwdriver, or get an auto electrical garage to install it, it's very easy.  The display comes through on the screen, so you can control the audio as you'd want.  Grom are very helpful in sorting problems, brilliant.

John, welcome,

I might be looking in the wrong place, have you got a link to a Jaguar version as its not listed on the Grom Audio website, seems to list every make bar Jaguar which is a bit odd. If there isn't one, then I'm guessing it could be they don't have some form of type approval for Jaguar cars.

Cheers

Andrew
