Just acquired a nice 3.2 XJ8, been for a test drive on the motorway for about 3 miles without issue! Upon coming up a hill towards my house, the car started juddering & losing power, it then wouldn't kick down on the flat! Sound familiar to anyone please??

Hi

Not too sure about the XJ8's, But start by have a good look in the engine bay

Look for any loose connections, hoses that have come off or split hoses, check HT leads are on tight, if it has them

Is there plenty of fuel in, or when was the last fuel filter changed, if there's any history

with the engine cold, start it up, if you can get to the exhaust manifold are all the down pipe getting hot, have you lost a cylinder

if there's nothing obvious then you may need to get it plugged in to see if there are any fault codes logged

and you could try disconnecting the battery as it might clear any faults, check you have any stereo codes first

cheers

Joe
