Jaguar s type gearbox faults can any come up why my 3ltr s type keeps show ing up gearbox fault but when turn ign off fault message clears

Hi

Only way to be sure is plug in to read the fault codes

but its also worth checking your battery is fully charged, as it can cause lot of s-type issues

it also might be worth changing the Oil and filter, which will also help with a lot of issues on the gearbox

cheers

Joe

Hi Guys,

I can fully support Joe's recommendations regarding the battery and would strongly urge the gearbox filter/oil change in any event.

I do not want to frighten anyone but the early S Types, and not a few XKs, suffered gearbox fails around 75-80k miles.  I bought my first S Type new in 2001 and the gearbox blew at 76,000 miles costing me £3000 at the time. To be fair mine was a real workhorse and took a lot of punishment hammering up and down the motorways which may have contributed a lot but for reasons known only to Ford (at the time), from 2003 Jaguar started to fit 6 speed ZF gearboxes. Go figure.
