Problem with my X type

Featured Replies

I have a x type jaguar 2004 diesel 2ltr. just recently my car has developed a fault as I am driving, it has started to pull back and feels like losing power, it feels as though it surges but cant be sure as its intermittent, it doesn't cut out and doesn't do it all the time.  Has anyone any suggestions on what this might be.  I have replaced the fuel filter and tried Redex in the fuel tank.  Many thanks  Keith.

Thank you for replying, I haven't checked air filter, will look at that tomorrow, I'm trying the process of elimination!

I like to start with the easy stuff. No point looking for a big problem when you can check the small possible problem areas easily.

Fuel filter was a good call, they so often get forgotten.

I've just ordered the air filter from Halfords, will replace it tomorrow, fingers crossed, thanks again. Keith

Hi

A friend of mine had this recently and it ended up being a split hose on the induction side, between air filter and engine

because when you drive steady it draws in unmetered air and causes problems, his was surging and with lack of power as well

cheers

Joe

Good call! I had similar on a BMW but it only did it in reverse which seemed very odd until I found the cause.

I'm so far behind the cutting edge that I didn't actually think of a MAF on a diesel..

Hi

Nowadays Diesels have more sensors and electronics than petrols have,

gone are the days of super reliable mechanical diesels

cheers

Joe

Yes, my Golf is one of the first electronically controlled VW diesels and is 20 years old, but it still seems alien to me.
