4.2 Supercharged engine with strange padding material ?

Featured Replies

Went to view a lovely XF SV8 this morning (my first one) and when I popped the top engine cover off there seemed to be some wadding or packing under the Supercharger (?) at the back of the engine. Obviously this is the same engine used in the S-type so I thought I'd ask in this forum as well as the XF one.

Any one know what this could be, is it normal ?

Hi

thinks it put there to stop heat transfer

I know there's a big piece under the supercharger

its just added to try to stop heat transfer from the engine block to the supercharger and inlet pipework

not seen it visible like that though

cheers

Joe

Thanks Joe,

That makes sense. It was definitely a robust heat resistant material, it just looked a bit odd poking out when I removed the cover !
