Alternator Regulator replacement

Featured Replies

Over the last few weeks my car has been throwing up an error that I haven't seen since last Winter - 'Park brake fault' - but it clears after a couple of attempts so I haven't been too concerned.

A quick check on here reveals the battery is the first place I should be looking, and sure enough the battery is sitting at 11.8v with the engine/ignition off. The battery is the original one fitted 12 years ago so I can't begrudge buying a new one !

Thought I'd check the voltage when the engine was running and was surprised to find 14.9v so I suspect my regulator is on it's way out as well. My question is can the regulator be replaced as a stand alone part or do I need a complete alternator ?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Hi Martin,

I had that problem with my s type over a year or so, corrected by disconnecting the battery.

I changed the battery that was 5 years old and fitted by Jaguar and have not had the problem since.  BUT it will pop up if the battery needs charging.

I would be inclined to change the battery first and then see how it goes.

Regards, Peter.

Thanks Peter,

New battery arriving today so I'll fit that and see how it goes.
