Well, to my surprise I am now the owner of an X type (2003, 3.0 V6).  Sadly it 'was' my little brother's, who unfortunately died in May.  However, it was his pride and joy, but eventually became neglected as he became more ill.  So when he died, it was sat in his local pub car park, fading in the salt air and looking very sad, with 2 flat tyres.

Our Dad in his desperation to get it away from his view asked Preston Jag Centre to offer him something for it.  They said £600, taken away, as seen.  I cursed, because I would have given him that.  However, Preston Jag Centre took it away, and once they had it, in true dealer form, said it had blocked cats and a substantial gearbox problem and would modify their offer down to £200.  At this point I got involved - I told him to tell them to bring it back, as I was all but sure they were full of BS and chancing their arm.

As a 'sorry' my Father said if I can get the car moved to my house, I can assess it and keep it if it was worth keeping.  Well after a failed attempt to get a local vehicle transporter (wemoova) to collect it (a charade of great cost).  I went to Blackpool, fitted a new battery and drove it back.

It runs like a dream!  I had 35mpg on an all motorway run - taking it easy of course.  I did give it one little kick down on the motorway, just to confirm it had no issues in that department (I did think a bit of wee might have escaped when I did that - but I am 56, so it could be a bladder issue :whistling:).  I had to behave though as my job dictates I act responsibly.  My Mrs said it 'sounded nice', she was following me.  Now if my wife says a car sounds nice, I am inclined to believe her, as like me, she hates noisy cars.

Anyway a new Battery, A set of Wheels & Tyres, a good polish up by a local lady who does valeting and a little TLC, I now feel glad to have taken the punt on it.

Lots to do yet - next job is a 'Full' Brakes job - Caliper service, new discs, new pads, fluid change.  Then onto some of the mundane stuff.

Yes I know it looks like a drug dealers car all blacked out, but apart from the wheels it was blacked out when I got it - I'm loathe to remove the rear tints as they've been done quite well.

Now that is a nice story, and with a good ending........good on you, particularly for exposing the BS :shit:of the Jag dealer.      We only use Jag Indies (particularly Elite Performance & Jag in Derby, which although it's a bit of a jaunt, it's a good day out) for that very reason.

We, also, are not a fan of the blacked-out look but somehow, the red of your X sets it off; have many miles of enjoyment.  It is always good to keep it in the family.

Add a blue light and you could be the fire chief.

Most people like the original factory look . I like the " different " look and all the tints can be peeled off quite easily if need be . If your happy with the tints just leave them on .

Cheers ,

Andy .
