Does s type have mondeo parts

Featured Replies

I' going to put a deposit on an s type tomorrow and my neighbour who is a back yard mechanic suggested that some s type models have more mondeo parts than some other s types.is this true?and if so how would I know whether the 2007 s type I'm buying would be more jag than ford.he basically suggested to steer clear of an s type that had mondeo bits and bobs so I'm asking you guys who probably are in the know defiantly rather than a folk law tale he may have heard once

Hi Gareth,

Check out the entry in Wikipedia for the S Type which should answer many of your questions or at least provide some clues.\

Cheers,

Steve

Tbh.it doesn' really bother me but when he first mentioned it I panicked a bit

Hi Gareth,

I have a 2007 S Type.   The engine, a 2.7 diesel was designed in 2003/4 by Peugeot and Ford with input from a few other car manufacturers.  You might see a few peugeot bits in it as well as Ford, Renault, citroen etc..  This is not uncommon  with manufacturers.

Alternators, water pumps, brake discs, callipers, and pads are open for common usage, in the same way as the sensors,  windscreen wipers, batteries, switches, door locks are all made by parts suppliers.

I worked for many years with much involvement with parts suppliers, who made the parts for umpteen different car manufacturers.  About 20 years ago I was in a Drop Forge in Cradley Heath where they were making push rods for the Hillman Hunter which was still being made in Brazil.

Without disparaging the skills of backyard mechanics, I would just enjoy your car.

Regards,

Peter.

That's exactly what im going to do.i read the Wikipedia page on it and how it was slagged off by the press for its outdated looks and the top gear team basically said it was hideous.ha ha.now to me I think the s type is an absolutely beautiful looking car and I love everything about it so thanks Peter, that is exactly what I will do,enjoy the car
