Hi all.  I haven't asked the question I am about to ask as it just sounds all wrong.  I have looked all over the internet but have found nothing to help in this matter, so here goes and lets see if any other XF owners have come close to this problem.

The window wiper water sprayer stopped working several weeks ago.  It sprayed water twice then wiped away as it should.  I know it can be removed from the computer so it sprays as long as you have the button pressed.  So I removed the inner wing and removed the washer pump from the water bottle, and sure enough the rubber filter was blocked.  Cleaned it and washed out the water bottle.  It worked fine for about 2 days !!!  Took it all apart again today and the filter is blocked again, but here is the bit that does not make any sense........when I press the screen wash button it works fine and will spray water as it should all day long, but when the engine is running it will not work as in you can not even hear the pump working.  When the engine stops via the stop/start system if you press the screen when the car engine is in stop mode then it will work.  If the engine restarts while you have the button pressed for the screen wash it will pump water OK until you come to press it again with the engine running and that's it ........not working until you stop the engine again.

Have you come across this?  Have you sorted it out?  What did you do?

Many thanks - Paul  2.2 xf diesel 2011 (December)

Paul, got the same symptoms on a 3.0D XFS. Windscreen washers work as expected anytime if engine stopped. However when engine started, washers will operate for one cycle and will not work again until car is stopped and restarted.

Though I had cured it by disconnecting the battery for a while. Washers started working properly, but initial fault had reappeared. This has to be software related, but like you cannot find any information, or dealer that wants to try anything other than replacing pump.

Help?

Hi all, new to the forum but have the same trouble on my 2.2 xf. I have cleaned the pump, washer bottle and pushed air through the jets ( small can from the pound shop) but still the same problem. Have a man popping round on Wednesday to take a look so will post if any news for you all.

Hi all, sorry for the late response to posting. Had a guy round about the washers and he seems to think it's a software problem

Work ok without the engine on but not when it's running. He has a friend who he is going to ask to see if he can take a look for me. Will keep you posted if I get any news.

Hi all, sorry for the late reply but work comes first. I have had the window washer pump replaced and the washer bottle cleaned out ( full of jelly like junk ) . I was having some other work done on the car as well and the chap put a computer on to reset the fault codes. All good and the washer works like it should. Push once to start the cycle and push the button if you need more spray. Hopes this helps you out guys.
