Hi everybody,

I have a 2009 Jaguar XF 3.0 ltr Diesel.

Recentley the "handbrake cannot be used error message came on while I tried applying handbrake at traffic lights.

The handbrake is in the off position and car can be driven.

I have read and tried the reset procedure pushing foot brake five times etc after battery was disconnected .

The handbrake does come on after this procedure but when I release handbrake the error comes on dash again.

Can anyone suggest anything else I can try myself?

Regards Colin

hi

only way to know for sure is to get it plugged in really,

every body's opinion will just be guess work

plugging in jaguar software will give a exact fault code

but usually it something like a stiff cable, a low battery or a stiff caliper, its just a electronic motor really, it tries to reach 2 positions parked and released, if it cant get there within a certain time and load resistance, then it will come up with a fault

cheers

Joe

hi colin have you had any work done to rear brakes lately?

took mine to jag specialist after having rear pads fitted then week later parking brake fault msg came up..all they did was reset handbrake on they computer..been fine ever since

Thank you for the replies.  No recent work done on brakes.

If I do the reset procedure I can hear the motors working but only on and off once and then back comes the error.

Will check battery tommorow if the rain stops!

Reading so many posts with different possibilities,

Probably best to get a Jaguar diagnostic.

Thanks again

i tried the rest procedure on mine but epb control unit wasnt communicating with main ecu...thats why ended up at jag specialist...good luck hope you get it sorted

hi colin did you manage to get sorted?
