1999 Stype

Dear All

I am new to the club, currently driving my second 1999 S-type 3 ltr V6 with only 51k miles ! she's a real beauty, a heavily optioned car in its day and deserving of being looked after. I have recently purchased a retro sat nav as the car currently has a Jaguar Startack phone in the place where the satnav would go. I am not interested in modifying the car and car phones are no more. Despite the satnav being out of date, I would still like to have it fitted. The glove box houses the 6 cd changer, the boot is empty. I would be interested and most grateful for any advise and any contacts in the Berkshire / Hampshire / Surrey area who perhaps knows these cars inside and out?

Also any meets happening in the future?

Many thanks

Jason

Welcome to the club, Jason.

I have one of the latest S types as against yours which is one of the earliest.  I think there are a few members around with earlier models who will assist.  It is also worth have a look on You Tube or looking up via Google a few videos of earlier models which also might help.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

Will do Peter

Many thanks, nice to be in an area of Stype appreciators.

My car was garaged for ages hence the low mileage. Needs a bit of work still, breaks and traction control light has appeared. Having had one before I'm not phased by it, the drive train is simply superb!  as i am sure you will agree

Welcome aboard Jason,

I have owned 2 S Types in the past - they are very nice cars.

Despite being an experienced electronics engineer I have not done any retrofitting of 'earlier' kit - it is usually the other way round!

Take care,

Martin.

Many Thanks Martin

Yes the ford electrics are the death these cars despite the drive train being superb. My first stype died because of the ecu, i had already replaced 3 window motors and still there were issues. That aside though my second one has 2 warning lights. One for the abs and the second is the traction control which is now non existent. Its been a challenge to say the least with weather we have recently had.

Do you have any thoughts on these faults?. The abs sensor has been replaced by the previous owner. The car does need discs and pads all round as it has sat around gathering dust for a few years.

Finally can you recommend any good jag technicians you could put me in touch or even yourself is this something you know about?

Thanks again

Jason
