Dear All,

My name is Steve and I have recently purchased a 2006 2.5l AWD X-Type and I'm really happy with it. However a week or so ago the Engine Warning Light came on and the car immediately went into the Limp Home mode. I pulled over and had a quick look to see if I can see anything obvious but everything appeared normal so I restarted the car and continued my journey to work. I should say that before and after this incident the car had been driving perfectly. Unfortunately this morning the same thing has happened so I need to get a mechanic to diagnose the problem. I have two questions;

  1. Can anyone recommend a Jaguar mechanic in the Camberley, Surrey area (GU15).
  2. I suspect that the spark plugs and potentially the ignition coil need replacing can anyone tell me how much I can expect to pay for this work?

Regards

Steve

Hi Steven

I have owned two X-Types and two S-Types, and on the last X-Type (2.1 FWD 2002) the car left me high and dry going into limp mode on the way back from Cornwall. That fault came down to two exhaust sensors, one I seem to remember being difficult to get to and labour intensive to replace. My local garage did it for me, costs were in the region of £450 if I remember correctly. Most garages will be able to diagnose the issue without too much of a problem.

Hi Steve

I work in the Surrey area and would always use 'Surrey Jag Centre', not quite in your part of Surrey, but they are very good, reasonably priced with the offer of a courtesy car too. The owner is Ray a Supreme Master Technician, if you just Google 'Surrey Jag Centre' they will come up or you can call them on 0208 689 3333.

Regards

Kevan
