Hiya, does anyone know why the abs fault light momentarily flashes when I start my s type, but does not show any more whilst driving? Cheers Dave.

Hi David,

It occasionally does that on my car, but only when the battery needs a charge, which is why it doesn't stay on when you are driving.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks old Peter, but my battery is brand new platinum one, so don't think that will be the problem, but would you say its nothing to worry about? Thanks.

Hi Dave,

My Battery is also a Platinum, just 18 months old, but they do need a charge if you have only been doing short runs.

But nothing to worry about.

Peter.

Hi Dave and Welcome to the Club,

If you're sure about your battery condition it may be worth your while inspecting the the cables to the ABS Controller under the bonnet and the Sensors and Cables at each corner of the car for any signs of damage or corrosion. The ABS system relies on an electrical signal generated by the rotation of the wheels and uses this to regulate the TCS, DSC and Gearbox amongst other bits and pieces.

As you are seeing the light flashing on start up and it stops before you move off, this is probably nothing to worry about - I think mine flashes too at engine start, I'll pay more attention the next time I start the car. and let you know.

However, one the most common problems reported by S Type drivers, particularly in the Winter months, is ABS, DSC, TCS warnings provoking the car to go into Limp Home mode. The typical causes are poor battery condition and/or damage or failure of a wheel sensor and/or the associated reluctor ring it works with. The ones at the rear are the usual suspects as these are exposed to the world unlike those at the front which are enclosed in the hub.

If you don't mind getting a little oily it would be best to familiarise yourself with the ABS system end to end and try to keep it in good condition.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Steve
