Whining noise at low speeds

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 Jaguar x type 2.5 petrol automatic AWD and has 45000 miles on the clock. It has started to make whining noises at speeds between 20 and 25mph increasing in tone on acceleration and decreasing in tone on decalaration. It does not happen all the time. I have been told it could be prop shaft related. Has anyone else had a similar problem and what needs to be done to rectify same.

From what area does the whine come from?

Could be a transfer box problem, possibly even a wheel bearing.

Hopefully not the rear diff.

Good luck.

It's the propshaft middle bearing , it drove me crazy for about 2 months after i bought the car , i coldn't quite pinpoint the noise , but finaly i did.

I managed to inject hot melted vaseline in the bearing with an old iron syringe , noise gone , end of story.

I fixed mine by leaving the missus at home lol
