2007 XKR Portfolio weird goings on !!!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, got an XKR Portfolio convertible and its great to drive, but annoying problems.

Sometimes the audio stops and starts, sometimes the phone will not connect, sometimes the sat nav doesn't know where the hell we are !!!

Cruise control 'wasnt available' the other day, yet it came back after a restart.

Next time I get in the car, everything is fine and its a dream !!!

Does anyone know what is going on ???

Cheers for any response icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

Hi David. My first thought would always be battery when random electrical problems arise.

How old is the battery? What is your typical usage of the car in terms of both miles per trip, and frequency of trips?

Hi Leo, thanks for the reply and I did think about that, but on my old XKR that go written off, the engine was sloppy in starting when things started to go wrong, but this one is fine.

I am now thinking that there might be a loose terminal as there was some work done on the boot before I bought it and maybe they didn't tighten them up properly !!!

I'll give it a go later and get back to you.

In answer to your questions, uaually 200 miles once a week and then every couple of days anoth 20 or 30. Really depends on circumstances as it is the pet and not the workhorse !!

Cheers

Your mileage should easily be enough to keep a good battery charged, but how old is the battery?

I agree that checking that the terminals are giving a good contact is a good idea.

Have since found a problem that has been present on both my XKR's, which when fixed has helped with some of the electrical problems.

There is an earthing point behind the front offside wheel and the securing nut breaks off when trying to remove it, showing that the earthing is useless.

If the cables are long enough to reach anothr bolt hole, maybe on an extra bracket, then it is a fairly simple fix, otherwist the cables need to be extended with another piece of earth cable to get to a better position.

Hope this helps someone experiencing the same problems.
