New Member looking for Info on EGR 2.2 se Estate

Ive owned this old Girl for over 2 years with no problems, but during the last week its been giving me a headache. It started to go into Limp mode with Gearbox Problem appearing on dash info and Engine management light on, I plugged my little scanner in and it showed some EGR fault codes I removed it along with inlet manifold and cleaned them up the EGR as expected was very clogged but im still getting a fault Sensor circuit A low, now as soon as I clear the code the Dash shows Gearbox Problem, Select D or R and it goes into gear with a huge Clunk and the Engine nearly jumps out Switch it off and restart and its Normal again Drives spot on. Could the two problems be related ? Any thoughts would be gratefully accepted   Chris
