DRIVE BELT SNAPPED

Featured Replies

Can anyone give advice on how to replace the drive belt on 2002 xj8? the original one snapped when the generator seized.

I followed the instructions from the manual but the centre bolt, which was left hand thread, snapped under the pressure of the spanner I was using ( the recommended one in the manual).

I managed to get a spare for the bolt but I am afraid that the tension produced when trying to fit the new belt will snap the mounting bolt again.

The method described in the manual on the 2002 model doesn't make sense as the fulcrum is on the load point which is the head of the nut. The later models were fitted with a different type of tensioner.

I would be very grateful if any correspondence regarding this could be emailed to me. at [email protected]
