I am finally looking to buy a Jag after motoring for the last 34 years in lots of other vehicles! 

I am looking forward to hearing about all things Jaguar, as well as hopefully picking up some advice and help as I start my journey! 

Specifically, I am looking to purchase a Jag XF. However, i am torn between the sensible and the less sensible. The issues I Have read about seem rather scary (water creeping up looms into modules, main bearings spinning on the crank, electronic gremlins, modules shutting down if the battery is disconnected or the voltage drops a little! Quite a list! Put off? Well, no. I understand all cars have their issues, and I am here to find out the low down on these things, how easy they are to fix and how you can perhaps prevent them occurring in the first place.

However, I am mainly here because I wish to start a mid life crisis. I can't learn to ride a motorcycle as I have been doing that since I was 16! My uncle passed away in 2022 adn he always dreamed of owning a Jag, even though in his 97 years he didn't make it. I thought I would steal the honours from (for) him.

I did it over 5 years ago now and have never regretted it. Personally I would go for a sportbrake (more practical and even better looking IMHO 🙂

Also my advice would be to avoid the Ingenium engines and stick with either the 2.2 (ideally the 200bhp version) or the V6. The pre-2016s also look better! Mine is 2013. Problems to date:
Water in boot (sorted before I got it but cost £1k for previous owner) so check boot is dry.
New discs and pads about every 2.5 years - It is a big car...
New Battery (AGM so £260)
Replacement Exterior Temp Sensor (£150)
Replacement Front Bumper Wiring Loom - (Parking sensor and reversing camera work as a unit) £250 at Jag main dealer
Rear doors & windows refused to open (I let the battery go flat in 1st Lockdown) sorted under warranty so I advise keeping battery happy with a CTek charger every couple of weeks as a minimum.

Bridgestone weather control A005's last about 15-20K miles (mine is on 19" wheels).
I only use Shell V Power diesel and have never had any EGR or DPF issues (mainly used for short local runs with a few motorway runs for an hour or so each month.
